2. Safety Information
WARNING: Read all instructions carefully before installation and operation. Failure to follow these instructions may result in serious injury or property damage.
- Electrical Safety: Always disconnect power to the pump and the appliance it serves before performing any installation, maintenance, or service. Basic wiring knowledge is required for connecting the overflow detection switch.
- Hazardous Materials: This product may contain chemicals known to the State of California to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm (Proposition 65 Warning).
- Installation: Ensure the pump is installed in a location where it is protected from freezing temperatures.
- Tubing: Regularly check the discharge tubing for obstructions or kinks. Clean or replace the tubing if necessary to prevent overflow.
- Initial Setup: A cardboard insert is shipped with the pump. This insert MUST BE REMOVED before operating the pump. Failure to do so will cause the pump to overflow.
3. Setup and Installation
This section outlines the steps for properly setting up and installing your VCMA-15ULST condensate pump.
3.1 Unpacking and Initial Inspection
- Carefully remove the pump and all components from the packaging.
- Inspect the pump for any visible damage that may have occurred during shipping. Contact your supplier if damage is found.
- IMPORTANT: Locate and remove the cardboard insert marked "REMOVE" from the pump's reservoir before operation. This insert is for shipping purposes only.

- Overflow Detection Switch: Equipped with 5-inch lead wires for connection to an appliance shutdown or alarm system.
- Inlet Openings: Three 1-1/8 inch diameter openings (two with removable caps) for condensate input.
- Tank Capacity: 1/2 US gallon.
- Wall Mount Tabs: Integrated tabs for secure mounting.
- Discharge: 3/8 inch O.D. barbed check valve for discharge tubing connection.
- Power Cord: 6-foot cord with a 3-prong plug.
- Tubing: 20 feet of 3/8 inch I.D. vinyl tubing is included with this model.
3.3 Mounting the Pump
The pump can be placed on a level surface or mounted to a wall using the built-in wall mount tabs. Ensure the pump is stable and level to allow for proper float operation.
3.4 Connecting Condensate Drain Lines
Connect the condensate drain line from your HVAC unit, dehumidifier, or other equipment to one of the three 1-1/8 inch inlet openings on the pump. Use the provided caps to seal any unused inlet openings.
3.5 Connecting Discharge Tubing
Attach the included 20-foot, 3/8-inch I.D. vinyl tubing to the 3/8-inch O.D. barbed discharge fitting. Route the tubing to a suitable drain location, ensuring there are no kinks or sharp bends that could restrict flow. The pump can lift water up to 15 feet vertically.
3.6 Electrical Connection and Overflow Switch Wiring
Plug the pump's 3-prong power cord into a standard 115-volt grounded electrical outlet. For the overflow detection switch, connect the two 5-inch lead wires according to the instructions of the appliance it serves. This switch can be wired to either shut down the appliance or activate an audible/visual alarm (alarm not included) in the event of high water levels. Basic electrical wiring knowledge is required for this connection.

4. Operating Instructions
The Little Giant VCMA-15ULST condensate pump operates automatically.
- Automatic Operation: The pump features automatic start and stop operation. When condensate fills the reservoir to a certain level (approximately 2.5 inches), the pump will activate.
- Shut-off: The pump will continue to operate until the water level drops to approximately 1.1 inches, at which point it will automatically turn off.
- Overflow Detection: The integrated overflow detection switch provides an additional layer of safety. If the water level rises above the normal operating range, this switch can be configured to either shut down the connected appliance or trigger an external alarm (not included).

5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your condensate pump.
- Disconnect Power: Always disconnect the pump from the power source before performing any maintenance.
- Inspect Tubing: Periodically check the discharge tubing for any signs of kinks, blockages, or damage. Clear any obstructions and replace damaged tubing as needed.
- Clean Reservoir: Over time, sediment and debris can accumulate in the pump's reservoir. Remove the pump cover and clean the inside of the tank and the float mechanism. Use a mild detergent and water, then rinse thoroughly.
- Check Check Valve: Ensure the built-in check valve is free of debris and operating correctly to prevent backflow.
- Reassemble: After cleaning, reassemble the pump, ensuring all connections are secure and the cover is properly seated.
6. Troubleshooting
This section provides solutions to common issues you might encounter with your condensate pump.
- Pump Not Running:
- Check if the pump is plugged into a live electrical outlet.
- Verify that the circuit breaker has not tripped.
- Ensure the float switch is not obstructed and can move freely.
- Check for thermal overload protection activation; allow the motor to cool down.
- Pump Running Continuously:
- Inspect the discharge tubing for kinks, blockages, or an excessive vertical lift that exceeds the pump's capacity.
- Check the check valve for debris that might prevent it from closing fully.
- Ensure the float switch is not stuck in the 'on' position.
- Pump Overflows:
- Confirm that the cardboard shipping insert was removed (refer to Section 3.1).
- Check for blockages in the inlet or discharge tubing.
- Verify that the pump's capacity is sufficient for the condensate volume being produced.
- Clean the reservoir and float mechanism if excessive debris is present.
- Excessive Noise:
- Ensure the pump is securely mounted and not vibrating against other surfaces.
- Check for debris inside the pump's volute or impeller.
