2. Important Safety Instructions

3. Parts and Features

4. Setup
4.1 Initial Cleaning
- Wash the carafe and filter basket in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.
- Wipe the exterior of the coffeemaker with a damp cloth.
- Run a full cycle with only water (no coffee) to clean the internal components.
4.2 Installing Filters
- Charcoal Water Filter: Remove the filter holder from the water reservoir. Soak the charcoal filter in cold tap water for 15 minutes. Insert the filter into the holder and snap it shut. Place the filter holder back into the water reservoir.
- Coffee Filter: Place the gold-tone permanent filter (or a paper filter) into the filter basket.
4.3 Filling the Water Reservoir
- Open the top lid of the coffeemaker.
- Fill the glass carafe with the desired amount of cold, fresh water. Refer to the cup markings on the carafe.
- Pour the water from the carafe into the water reservoir. Do not exceed the 12-cup maximum line.
- Close the top lid securely.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Basic Brewing
- Ensure the coffeemaker is plugged into a grounded electrical outlet.
- Add the desired amount of coffee grounds to the filter basket. A general guideline is 1 scoop of ground coffee per cup, but adjust to your preference.
- Place the carafe on the warming plate.
- Press the BREW button to start the brewing cycle. The indicator light will illuminate.
- The coffeemaker will automatically shut off after the brewing cycle is complete and the auto-off timer expires.
5.2 Customizing Your Brew
- Brew Strength Control: Press the BOLD button before brewing for a stronger cup of coffee. The indicator light will illuminate.
- 1-4 Cup Setting: If brewing 4 cups or less, press the 1-4 CUP button before brewing. This optimizes the brewing process for smaller quantities.
- Adjustable Coffee Temperature: Use the temperature control dial to select your preferred warming plate temperature: Regular, Hot, or Extra-Hot.
5.3 Programming Brew Start
- Set Clock: Press the CLOCK button, then use the HOUR and MINUTE buttons to set the current time. Press CLOCK again to confirm.
- Set Auto-On Time: Press the PROG button, then use the HOUR and MINUTE buttons to set the desired time for brewing to start. Press PROG again to confirm.
- Press the AUTO ON button to activate the programmed brew start. The indicator light will illuminate.
5.4 Brew Pause Feature
The Brew Pause feature allows you to temporarily stop the flow of coffee from the filter basket to pour a cup before the brewing cycle is complete. Simply remove the carafe from the warming plate. The flow will stop automatically. Return the carafe to the warming plate within 20 seconds to resume brewing and prevent overflow.
6. Maintenance and Cleaning
6.1 Daily Cleaning
- Always unplug the coffeemaker from the electrical outlet before cleaning.
- Wash the glass carafe, carafe lid, and filter basket in warm, soapy water. These parts are also top-rack dishwasher safe.
- Wipe the exterior of the coffeemaker with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleansers or scouring pads.
6.2 Self-Clean Function
The coffeemaker is equipped with a self-clean function to remove mineral deposits that can affect coffee flavor and brewing performance. It is recommended to run the self-clean cycle periodically, especially in areas with hard water.
- Fill the water reservoir to the 12-cup line with a mixture of 1/3 white vinegar and 2/3 water.
- Press the CLEAN button. The indicator light will illuminate.
- The coffeemaker will run a cleaning cycle. Once complete, the indicator light will turn off.
- Run two full cycles with fresh, cold water to rinse the coffeemaker thoroughly.
6.3 Replacing the Charcoal Water Filter
The charcoal water filter should be replaced every 60 days or after 60 uses, or more often if you have hard water. A reminder indicator may appear on the display.
- Remove the old charcoal filter from its holder.
- Soak a new charcoal filter in cold tap water for 15 minutes.
- Insert the new filter into the holder and snap it shut.
- Place the filter holder back into the water reservoir.
7. Troubleshooting
If your coffeemaker is not functioning correctly, please consult the following common issues and solutions:
- Coffee not brewing: Ensure the coffeemaker is plugged in, the water reservoir is filled, and the carafe is correctly placed on the warming plate. Check if the BREW or AUTO ON function is activated.
- Weak coffee: Increase the amount of coffee grounds, select the BOLD brew strength setting, or ensure the charcoal water filter is not expired.
- Coffee not hot enough: Adjust the warming plate temperature setting to 'Hot' or 'Extra-Hot'. Ensure the carafe lid is properly seated.
- Water leaking: Check that the filter basket is correctly seated and the carafe is fully pushed into place. Ensure the water reservoir lid is closed properly.
- Display not working: Check the power connection. If there was a power interruption, the 60-Second Reset feature should restore settings. If not, unplug and replug the unit.
