Operating Instructions
1. Emergency Response Shears
The primary function of the Raptor is its robust medical shears. These shears are designed to cut through tough materials quickly and efficiently.
- Usage: Open the shears fully. Position the material to be cut between the blades. Apply firm, steady pressure to the handles to cut. The serrated lower blade helps grip materials.
- Application: Ideal for cutting clothing, bandages, and other materials in emergency situations.

2. Strap Cutter
The integrated strap cutter provides a safe and effective way to cut through seatbelts or other straps.
- Usage: With the shears folded or unfolded, deploy the strap cutter by rotating it out from the handle. Hook the strap into the cutter's opening and pull firmly to slice through.
- Application: Essential for quickly freeing individuals from seatbelts or other restraints.

3. Ring Cutter
The ring cutter is designed for safely removing rings from swollen fingers.
- Usage: With the shears open, position the ring within the small cutting notch on the back of one of the shear blades. Gently squeeze the handles to cut the ring.
- Application: Used to remove rings in medical emergencies where swelling prevents removal.

4. Oxygen Tank Wrench
A specialized wrench for opening standard oxygen tanks.
- Usage: With the shears folded, locate the oxygen tank wrench on the strap cutter tool. Align it with the valve of an oxygen tank and turn to open or close.
- Application: For quick access to oxygen in emergency medical situations.

5. Carbide Glass Breaker
A robust carbide tip for breaking vehicle windows or other glass in emergencies.

- Application: Useful for quick assessments or measurements in the field.

Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your LEATHERMAN Raptor shears, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: After each use, especially in harsh environments or after contact with bodily fluids, clean the shears thoroughly with soap and water. Rinse completely and dry immediately.
- Lubrication: Apply a light coat of high-quality lubricant to the pivot points and moving parts periodically to ensure smooth operation and prevent corrosion.
- Sharpening: The shears are made from 420HC stainless steel. If the blades become dull, they can be professionally sharpened. The serrated edge may require specialized sharpening tools.
- Storage: Store the Raptor in a dry environment, preferably in its holster, to protect it from damage and environmental elements.

Troubleshooting
Most issues with the LEATHERMAN Raptor can be resolved with basic care. If you encounter problems, consider the following:
- Stiff Operation: If the folding mechanism or shear action feels stiff, clean the tool thoroughly and apply lubricant to all pivot points.
- Dull Blades: If the shears are no longer cutting effectively, they may need sharpening. Refer to the Maintenance section.
- Corrosion: Although made of stainless steel, prolonged exposure to moisture or corrosive substances can lead to corrosion. Clean and dry the tool immediately after exposure and apply a rust preventative.
