HoMedics Illumine Aspen Tabletop Fireplace Instruction Manual

1. Important Safety Instructions

Please read all instructions carefully before using your HoMedics Illumine Aspen Tabletop Fireplace. Failure to follow these instructions may result in fire, injury, or property damage. Retain this manual for future reference.

  • For Adult Use Only: This product is not a toy. Keep out of reach of children and pets.
  • Proper Fuel: Use only the recommended botanical oil or a compatible lamp oil specifically designed for wick-based fireplaces. Do not use gasoline, lighter fluid, alcohol, or any other flammable liquids.
  • Stable Surface: Always place the fireplace on a stable, level, non-combustible surface, away from edges where it could be accidentally knocked over.
  • Clearance: Maintain a minimum distance of 3 feet (1 meter) from all combustible materials such as curtains, furniture, paper, clothing, and bedding.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation when operating indoors. While designed for indoor/outdoor use, enclosed spaces may accumulate smoke or odors.
  • Never Leave Unattended: Do not leave a lit fireplace unattended. Always extinguish the flame before leaving the room or going to sleep.
  • Extinguishing: Use the provided snuffer or a non-flammable cover to extinguish the flame. Do not blow out the flame or use water.
  • Refueling: Allow the unit to cool completely before refueling. Never refuel a hot or lit fireplace.
  • Glass Panels: The decorative glass panels become hot during operation. Avoid touching them until they have cooled.
  • Smoke Alarms: Be aware that operating any open flame device, including this tabletop fireplace, may activate smoke alarms, especially in smaller or poorly ventilated areas.
  • Outdoor Use: When used outdoors, place in a sheltered area to prevent wind from affecting the flame or tipping the unit.

3. Package Contents

Verify that all items are present in your package:

  • HoMedics Illumine Aspen Tabletop Fireplace Base
  • Decorative Glass Slides (2 pieces)
  • Wick (pre-installed or separate)
  • 500ml Botanical Oil (initial supply)
  • Instruction Manual (this document)

4. Setup

  1. Unpack: Carefully remove all components from the packaging.
  2. Placement: Choose a suitable location for your fireplace. Ensure it is on a stable, heat-resistant, non-combustible surface, away from drafts, flammable materials, and out of reach of children and pets.
  3. Install Glass Slides: Gently slide the decorative glass panels into the designated slots on the fireplace base. Ensure they are securely seated.
  4. Fill Reservoir: Locate the heat-resistant reservoir. Carefully pour the botanical oil into the reservoir, ensuring not to overfill. The wick should be fully submerged and saturated with oil. Do not fill above the maximum fill line, if indicated.
  5. Wick Preparation: Allow the wick to soak in the oil for at least 15-20 minutes before initial lighting to ensure it is fully saturated. This helps prevent premature wick degradation and ensures a consistent flame.

5. Operating Instructions

  1. Lighting the Wick: Using a long lighter or match, carefully ignite the exposed portion of the wick. The flame will gradually grow to its full size.
  2. Enjoying the Flame: The Illumine Aspen provides a decorative flame. Monitor the flame and ensure it is burning steadily.
  3. Extinguishing the Flame: To extinguish, use a snuffer or a non-flammable cover to deprive the flame of oxygen. Do not blow out the flame or use water. Ensure the flame is completely out before leaving the unit unattended.
  4. Refueling: Always allow the fireplace to cool completely before attempting to refuel. Refer to Section 4 for filling instructions.

6. Maintenance

  • Wick Care: The 7-inch double-sided wick is designed for extended use. If the flame becomes small or inconsistent, it may be time to clean or replace the wick. Trim any charred portions of the wick to expose a fresh surface.
  • Wick Replacement: When the wick is no longer effective, replace it with an official HoMedics replacement wick. Follow the instructions provided with the replacement wick.
  • Cleaning: Ensure the unit is completely cool before cleaning. Wipe the exterior surfaces with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or immerse the unit in water. Clean the glass panels with a glass cleaner.
  • Storage: When not in use for extended periods, ensure the reservoir is empty or securely capped to prevent evaporation. Store the fireplace in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
