DIG ECO1ASV.075 Ambient Light Powered Irrigation Controller User Manual

Model: ECO1ASV.075

Introduction

The DIG ECO1ASV.075 is an innovative single-station irrigation controller designed for efficient water management. This unit is powered entirely by ambient light (solar energy), eliminating the need for batteries or external AC power. It comes pre-mounted on a 3/4-inch anti-siphon valve, making it suitable for both drip irrigation and sprinkler systems. The integrated anti-siphon valve includes flow control and internal/external bleed features, crucial for protecting your household water supply from contamination. Its patented photovoltaic module and microelectronic energy management system ensure reliable operation in various light conditions, providing continuous power to the controller.

Key Features

  • Ambient Light Powered: Operates solely on solar energy, requiring no backup batteries or AC power.
  • Versatile Application: Compatible with both drip irrigation and sprinkler systems.
  • Integrated Anti-Siphon Valve: Features a 3/4-inch anti-siphon valve with flow control for water supply protection.
  • User-Friendly Interface: Equipped with seven buttons and an integrated LCD for easy programming.
  • Flexible Programming: Allows for programmable run times from 1 minute up to 5 hours and 59 minutes.
  • Environmental Sustainability: Utilizes clean, renewable solar energy for eco-friendly operation.

Product Components

The DIG ECO1ASV.075 controller and valve assembly consists of the following main parts:

  • Controller Unit: The top grey housing containing the solar panel, LCD screen, and control buttons.
  • Anti-Siphon Valve: The black valve body with 3/4-inch inlet and outlet connections, designed to prevent backflow.
  • Flow Control Knob: Located on the valve, used to adjust water flow.
  • Solenoid: The component that opens and closes the valve, connected to the controller.

Setup and Installation

Proper installation is crucial for the optimal performance and longevity of your ECO1ASV.075 controller. Ensure all connections are secure and watertight.

  1. Prepare the Site: Choose a location that receives adequate ambient light throughout the day for the solar panel. The valve should be installed above the highest sprinkler head or emitter in the zone to ensure proper anti-siphon function.
  2. Connect to Water Supply:
    • Identify the inlet (upstream) and outlet (downstream) ports on the anti-siphon valve. Arrows on the valve body typically indicate flow direction.
    • Connect the inlet side of the valve to your main water supply line (e.g., garden hose, PVC pipe).
    • Connect the outlet side of the valve to your irrigation system (drip line or sprinkler manifold).
    • Use appropriate thread sealant (e.g., PTFE tape) on all threaded connections to prevent leaks.
  3. Secure the Unit: While the valve provides a stable base, ensure the entire assembly is securely positioned to prevent accidental damage or dislodgement.
  4. Initial Charge: Allow the unit to sit in ambient light for at least 2-3 hours before initial programming to ensure the internal energy management system is sufficiently charged.
  5. Test for Leaks: Slowly turn on the main water supply and check all connections for leaks. Tighten as necessary.

Operating Instructions

The ECO1ASV.075 controller features a simple interface for programming your irrigation schedule.

Controller Interface

The controller has an LCD screen and seven buttons:

  • LCD Display: Shows current time, program settings, and status.
  • Buttons: Used for navigation, setting values, and manual operation. Refer to Image 2 for button layout.

Programming Your Schedule

Follow these steps to set up your watering program:

  1. Activate Screen: Touch any button to activate the LCD screen if it is off.
  2. Set Current Time: Navigate to the time setting mode (consult the quick guide on the controller's cover or full manual for specific button presses) and set the current time.
  3. Set Watering Start Time: Choose the desired time for your irrigation cycle to begin.
  4. Set Run Time: Program the duration of each watering cycle. The controller allows run times from 1 minute up to 5 hours and 59 minutes, adjustable in 1-minute increments.
  5. Set Watering Frequency: Select how often the irrigation cycle should repeat (e.g., daily, every other day, specific days of the week).
  6. Save Settings: Ensure all settings are saved before exiting the programming mode.

Manual Operation

To manually turn the water on or off, or to initiate a manual watering cycle:

  • Locate the manual operation button (often indicated by a water drop or 'ON/OFF' symbol).
  • Press the button to cycle through manual options (e.g., manual ON, manual OFF, manual cycle).
  • Confirm your selection. The valve will open or close accordingly.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and efficient operation of your DIG ECO1ASV.075 controller.

  • Solar Panel Cleaning: Periodically wipe the solar panel on top of the controller with a soft, damp cloth to remove dust, dirt, or debris. A clean panel ensures maximum light absorption and power generation.
  • Valve Inspection: Annually inspect the anti-siphon valve for any signs of wear, cracks, or leaks.
  • Winterization (if applicable): In regions with freezing temperatures, disconnect the unit from the water supply and drain all water from the valve and irrigation lines to prevent freeze damage. Store the controller in a protected, non-freezing environment.
  • Debris Removal: Ensure no debris obstructs the valve's internal components or the anti-siphon mechanism.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your ECO1ASV.075 controller, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Controller screen is blank or dim.Insufficient ambient light for charging.Move the unit to a location with more direct or consistent ambient light. Allow several hours for charging.
Valve does not open/close.Low power, solenoid issue, or debris in valve.Ensure controller is charged. Check solenoid wire connection. Inspect valve for debris and clear if necessary.
Water leaks from valve.Loose connections, damaged O-rings, or debris in valve seat.Tighten all connections. Inspect and replace O-rings if damaged. Flush the valve to remove debris.
Program not running as scheduled.Incorrect programming, low power, or manual override active.Verify program settings (start time, run time, frequency). Ensure controller is charged. Check if manual override is active and deactivate it.
