You can configure the router using a web browser on a computer connected to the router (either wirelessly or via an Ethernet cable to one of the LAN ports) or via the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi app.

For web browser setup, open a browser and navigate to http://router.local or 192.168.1.1. Follow the on-screen instructions to set up your Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password.

4.1. Connecting Devices

  • Wired Devices: Connect devices such as computers, gaming consoles, or smart TVs to the router's four yellow LAN ports using Ethernet cables.
  • Wireless Devices: On your wireless device (smartphone, tablet, laptop), search for available Wi-Fi networks. Select your router's Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and enter the password you configured during setup.

Regularly check for and install firmware updates to ensure optimal performance, security, and access to the latest features. Firmware updates can typically be performed through the Linksys Smart Wi-Fi app or the router's web-based interface.

5.2. Resetting the Router

If you encounter persistent issues, you may need to reset the router to its factory default settings. Locate the reset button (often a small pinhole) on the back of the router. Use a paperclip or similar pointed object to press and hold the reset button for about 10 seconds until the power light blinks. Release the button, and the router will restart with factory settings.

6. Troubleshooting

  • No Internet Connection:
    • Ensure your modem is working correctly and has an active internet connection.
    • Check all cable connections between the modem and router.
    • Restart both your modem and router.
  • Slow Wi-Fi Speeds:
    • Relocate the router to a more central position, away from obstructions and interference sources.
    • Ensure your devices are connected to the appropriate Wi-Fi band (5 GHz for closer, faster connections; 2.4 GHz for longer range).
    • Check for firmware updates.
  • Cannot Connect to Wi-Fi:
    • Verify that you are entering the correct Wi-Fi network name (SSID) and password.
