Setup
Before first use, ensure the coffee system is placed on a stable, level surface away from direct heat sources and moisture.
1. Unpacking and Placement
- Carefully remove all packaging materials.
- Place the unit in its desired location, ensuring adequate ventilation around the machine.
2. Filling the Water Tank
The Miele CM5200 features a 61 oz. removable water tank.
- Remove the water tank from the side of the machine.
- Fill the tank with fresh, cold tap water up to the MAX mark.
- Replace the water tank securely.

3. Filling the Bean Container
The coffee system uses whole beans for optimal freshness.
- Open the lid of the bean container located on top of the machine.
- Pour fresh coffee beans into the container. Do not use beans coated with flavors or sugar, as this can damage the grinder.
- Close the lid securely.

4. Initial Rinse Cycle
After initial setup, the machine will prompt you to perform a rinse cycle. Follow the on-screen instructions. This prepares the system for brewing.
Operating Instructions
The Miele CM5200 offers a variety of drink options and customizable settings.
1. Control Panel Overview
The intuitive control panel allows for easy selection of drink types and adjustments.

2. Brewing Coffee and Espresso
- Place one or two cups under the coffee spout.
- Select your desired coffee or espresso type from the menu.
- Press the start button. The machine will automatically grind the beans and brew your coffee.

3. Using the Milk Frother
For milk-based beverages, connect the stainless steel milk flask.
- Fill the stainless steel milk flask with cold milk.
- Connect the milk tube from the machine to the milk flask.
- Select a milk-based drink (e.g., Latte Macchiato, Cappuccino). The machine will automatically froth and dispense milk, then coffee.

4. Hot Water Dispensing
The machine can also dispense hot water for tea or other hot beverages.
- Place a cup under the hot water spout.
- Select the hot water function from the menu.
- Press the start button to dispense hot water.

Maintenance
Regular cleaning and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of your Miele CM5200.
1. Cleaning the Drip Tray and Waste Container
- The drip tray and waste container should be emptied and rinsed regularly, ideally daily or after several uses.
- Slide out the drip tray from the front of the machine.
- Remove the waste container (for spent coffee grounds) and empty both.
- Rinse thoroughly with warm water and mild detergent, then dry completely before reinserting.
2. Cleaning the Brew Unit
The brew unit is removable for easy cleaning.
- Turn off and unplug the machine.
- Open the side access panel and carefully remove the brew unit.
- Rinse the brew unit under warm running water until all coffee residue is removed. Do not use detergent.
- Allow the brew unit to air dry completely before reinserting. This should be done weekly.
3. Descaling
The machine will prompt you when descaling is required (approximately monthly, depending on water hardness and usage). Use Miele-approved descaling tablets.
- Follow the on-screen instructions for the descaling program.
- This is an automated process that requires placing a container under the spouts to collect the descaling solution.
4. Cleaning the Milk System
After preparing milk-based beverages, the milk system should be cleaned.
- The machine will prompt for a quick rinse after each milk preparation.
- Periodically, a more thorough cleaning using Miele milk system cleaner is recommended. Follow the instructions provided with the cleaner.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Miele CM5200, refer to the following common problems and solutions.
