Introduction
This manual provides essential instructions for the safe and effective use of your Sony Cyber-shot DSC-HX300 digital camera. Please read this manual thoroughly before operating the camera and retain it for future reference. The DSC-HX300 is a 20.4 MP digital camera featuring a powerful 50x optical zoom lens and a 3-inch Xtra Fine LCD, designed for capturing a wide range of photographic subjects from expansive landscapes to distant details.
1. Setup
1.1 Unpacking and Checking Included Items
Before first use, ensure all items are present in the package:

- Lens Cap

1.2 Battery Installation and Charging
Insert the supplied rechargeable battery into the battery compartment. Ensure correct orientation. Connect the camera to the AC adaptor using the Micro USB cable to charge the battery. The charging indicator will illuminate during charging and turn off when complete.

1.3 Memory Card Insertion
Open the memory card slot cover. Insert a compatible memory card (MS Duo, SD, SDHC) with the correct orientation until it clicks into place. Close the cover securely.
1.4 Attaching the Shoulder Strap
Thread the shoulder strap through the strap eyelets on both sides of the camera. Ensure it is securely fastened to prevent accidental drops.
1.5 Initial Settings (Date and Time)
Upon first power-on or after the battery has been removed for an extended period, the camera may prompt you to set the date and time. Follow the on-screen instructions to configure these settings.
2. Operating the Camera
2.1 Powering On and Off
Press the ON/OFF button located on the top of the camera to power it on or off.

2.2 Basic Photography (Intelligent Auto Mode)
For general shooting, set the mode dial to Intelligent Auto (green camera icon). The camera will automatically detect the scene and adjust settings for optimal results. Press the shutter button halfway to focus, then press fully to capture the image.

2.3 Zoom Operation
Use the zoom lever around the shutter button to adjust the optical zoom. The camera features a 50x optical zoom. Digital zoom can be enabled in the settings for further magnification, though with potential image quality reduction.

2.4 Shooting Modes
Rotate the mode dial to select various shooting modes:
- Program Auto (P): Allows more control over settings while the camera sets exposure.
- Aperture Priority (A): Manually set aperture, camera sets shutter speed.
- Shutter Priority (S): Manually set shutter speed, camera sets aperture.
- Manual Exposure (M): Full manual control over aperture and shutter speed.
- Panorama: Capture wide panoramic images by sweeping the camera.
- Scene Selection (SCN): Choose from various scene presets like Portrait, Landscape, Night Scene, etc.
2.5 Video Recording
To record a video, press the dedicated MOVIE button. Press it again to stop recording. The camera supports Full HD 1080p video resolution.
2.6 Playback
Press the Playback button to view captured images and videos. Use the control wheel to navigate through your media.
2.7 Connecting to a Computer or TV
Connect the camera to a computer using the Micro USB cable to transfer files. For viewing on a TV, use a Micro HDMI cable (not supplied) to connect the camera's HDMI output to your television.
3. Maintenance
3.1 Cleaning the Camera Body and Lens
- Camera Body: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a cloth lightly dampened with water or a mild cleaning solution, then wipe dry.
- Lens: Use a lens brush to remove dust, then gently wipe with a lens cleaning cloth. Avoid touching the lens surface with your fingers.
3.2 Battery Care
To prolong battery life, avoid exposing it to extreme temperatures. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when not in use. Fully charge the battery before extended storage and recharge every six months to prevent deep discharge.
3.3 Storage
When storing the camera for long periods, remove the battery and memory card. Store the camera in a dry, well-ventilated area, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use a desiccant if storing in a humid environment.
