6. Cleaning and Maintenance
Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your coffee machine.
Daily Cleaning:
- Always unplug the coffee machine and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
- Remove the used paper filter and discard coffee grounds.
- Wash the glass carafes and the plastic filter holder in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and dry. These parts are not dishwasher safe.
- Wipe the exterior of the machine, including the stainless steel body and heating plates, with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
- Do not immerse the main unit, cord, or plug in water or any other liquid.
Descaling:
Mineral deposits (limescale) can build up in your coffee machine over time, affecting performance and coffee taste. Descale your machine regularly, depending on the hardness of your water and frequency of use (e.g., every 2-4 weeks).
- Prepare a descaling solution according to the descaler product instructions (e.g., white vinegar diluted with water, or a commercial descaling agent).
- Pour the descaling solution into the water reservoir.
- Place empty carafes on the heating plates. Do not use a paper filter or coffee grounds.
- Run a brewing cycle. After about half the solution has brewed through, turn off the machine and let it sit for 15-20 minutes to allow the solution to work.
- Turn the machine back on and allow the remaining solution to brew through.
- Discard the descaling solution from the carafes.
- Run at least two full cycles with fresh, clean water to rinse the machine thoroughly and remove any residual descaler taste.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your coffee machine, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Machine does not turn on. | Not plugged in; power outlet not working; power switch not pressed. | Ensure the machine is securely plugged into a working outlet. Press the power switch firmly. Check your circuit breaker. |
| Coffee is not brewing. | No water in reservoir; dry-run protection activated; machine needs descaling. | Fill the water reservoir. If dry-run protection activated, allow machine to cool before refilling. Perform a descaling cycle. |
| Coffee tastes weak or watery. | Not enough coffee grounds; coffee grounds too coarse; machine needs descaling. | Increase amount of coffee grounds. Use finer ground coffee. Descale the machine. |
| Coffee overflows from filter holder. | Too much coffee grounds; filter holder clogged; carafe not properly placed. | Reduce coffee grounds. Clean filter holder. Ensure carafe is correctly positioned. |
| Machine is leaking. | Water reservoir overfilled; components not properly assembled. | Do not overfill water reservoir. Ensure filter holder and carafes are correctly seated. |
