5. Operating Instructions
Your Heath Zenith HZ-4191-BK motion light features advanced motion detection and DualBrite technology for versatile lighting control.
5.1 Motion Detection
The integrated motion sensor detects movement within a 180-degree field of view, up to 30 feet away. When motion is detected, the light will activate according to your chosen settings.

5.2 DualBrite Technology
DualBrite technology provides energy-saving two-level lighting:
- Accent Lighting (50% Power): At dusk, the light will automatically turn on at 50% power, providing soft accent lighting. You can pre-select this accent lighting to stay on for 3 hours, 6 hours, or until dawn.
- Full Bright Lighting (100% Power): When motion is detected while in accent mode, the light will automatically switch to full bright lighting (100% power) for a pre-selected duration (1, 5, or 10 minutes). After the set time, the light will automatically return to the accent mode (50% power).
5.3 Setting Adjustments
The light features adjustable settings for motion sensitivity, duration of full brightness, and duration of accent lighting. Refer to the internal controls, typically located near the motion sensor, for specific adjustment dials or switches. These controls allow you to customize the light's behavior to suit your preferences and environment.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
To maintain the appearance and performance of your light fixture:
- Ensure power is off before cleaning.
- Wipe the exterior with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as they may damage the finish or glass.
- Clean the clear beveled glass panels regularly to ensure maximum light output and clear motion sensor operation.
6.2 Bulb Replacement
When the bulb needs replacement:
- Turn off power to the fixture at the circuit breaker.
- Allow the old bulb to cool completely before touching it.
- Carefully unscrew the old bulb.
- Screw in a new 100W maximum E26 medium base incandescent bulb.
- Restore power to the fixture.
7. Troubleshooting
If your motion light is not functioning as expected, refer to the following common issues and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Light does not turn on. | No power; faulty bulb; incorrect wiring; sensor blocked. | Check circuit breaker. Replace bulb. Verify wiring connections. Ensure sensor is clear of obstructions. |
| Motion not detected or range is poor. | Sensor sensitivity too low; sensor obstructed; incorrect mounting height. | Adjust sensor sensitivity setting. Clear any obstructions. Ensure fixture is mounted at an optimal height (typically 6-10 feet). |
| Light stays on continuously. | Continuous motion detected; sensor malfunction; manual override activated (if applicable). | Check for constant heat sources or movement in sensor's field. Cycle power off/on. Review settings for manual override. |
| Light flickers or dims unexpectedly. | Loose wiring; faulty bulb; power fluctuations. | Check all wire connections. Replace bulb. Consult an electrician if power fluctuations are suspected. |
If these steps do not resolve the issue, please contact customer support.
