1. Introduction
Thank you for choosing the De'Longhi Alicia PLUS EMKM4.B Electric Moka Pot. This appliance is designed to prepare delicious Italian-style coffee with convenience and safety. Please read this manual carefully before using the appliance for the first time to ensure proper operation and to prevent damage.

2. Safety Instructions
Always follow basic safety precautions when using electrical appliances to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and/or injury to persons, including the following:
- Read all instructions carefully.
- Do not touch hot surfaces. Use handles or knobs.
- To protect against fire, electric shock, and personal injury, do not immerse cord, plugs, or the appliance base in water or other liquid.
- Close supervision is necessary when any appliance is used by or near children.
- Unplug from outlet when not in use and before cleaning. Allow to cool before putting on or taking off parts, and before cleaning the appliance.
- Do not operate any appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been damaged in any manner. Contact customer service for examination, repair, or adjustment.
- The use of accessory attachments not recommended by the appliance manufacturer may result in fire, electric shock, or personal injury.
- Do not use outdoors.
- Do not let cord hang over edge of table or counter, or touch hot surfaces.
- Do not place on or near a hot gas or electric burner, or in a heated oven.
- Always attach plug to appliance first, then plug cord into the wall outlet. To disconnect, turn any control to "off", then remove plug from wall outlet.
- Do not use appliance for other than intended use.
- Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing hot liquids.
3. Product Components
Familiarize yourself with the parts of your De'Longhi Alicia PLUS EMKM4.B:
- Transparent Coffee Container: Upper part where brewed coffee collects.
- Lid: Transparent lid for the coffee container.
- Handle: For safe pouring.
- Filter Funnel: Holds ground coffee.
- Filter Plate: Sits above the filter funnel.
- Water Boiler: Lower part where water is heated.
- Pressure Valve: Safety valve on the water boiler.
- Power Base: Detachable 360° swivel base with power button.
- Power Button: On/Off switch with indicator light.
- Adapter for 2 or 4 Cups: Allows preparation of different coffee quantities.

4. Setup and First Use
4.1 Unpacking
Remove all packaging materials and labels from the appliance. Keep packaging for future storage or disposal.
4.2 Initial Cleaning
Before first use, wash all removable parts (coffee container, lid, filter funnel, filter plate) with warm water and mild detergent. Rinse thoroughly and dry. Wipe the exterior of the water boiler and power base with a damp cloth.
4.3 First Brew Cycle (Cleaning Cycle)
To clean the internal components and remove any manufacturing residues, perform a cleaning cycle without coffee:
- Unscrew the coffee container from the water boiler.
- Fill the water boiler with cold water up to the level of the pressure valve. Do not overfill.
- Insert the filter funnel into the water boiler.
- Place the filter plate on top of the filter funnel.
- Screw the coffee container firmly onto the water boiler.
- Place the moka pot onto the power base.
- Plug the power base into a suitable electrical outlet (240V).
- Press the power button. The indicator light will illuminate.
- Allow the water to boil and pass through to the coffee container.
- Once the cycle is complete and the appliance automatically shuts off, unplug it and let it cool down.
- Discard the water and rinse all parts.
Repeat this process 2-3 times before preparing coffee for consumption.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Preparing Coffee (2 or 4 Cups)
- Unscrew the coffee container from the water boiler.
- Fill the water boiler with cold water up to the level of the pressure valve. For 2 cups, use the special adapter. For 4 cups, fill directly.
- Insert the filter funnel into the water boiler.
- Fill the filter funnel with ground coffee. Do not press the coffee down. Ensure no coffee grounds are on the edges of the filter funnel.
- If preparing 2 cups, place the 2-cup adapter into the filter funnel before adding coffee.
- Place the filter plate on top of the filter funnel.
- Screw the coffee container firmly onto the water boiler. Ensure it is tightly sealed to prevent steam leakage.
- Place the moka pot onto the power base.
- Plug the power base into a suitable electrical outlet.
- Press the power button. The indicator light will illuminate, indicating the brewing process has started.
- Coffee will begin to rise into the transparent coffee container.
- The appliance will automatically shut off when the coffee is ready.
- The keep-warm function will activate, maintaining coffee temperature for up to 30 minutes.
- Carefully remove the moka pot from the base by the handle and pour.

5.2 Keep Warm Function
After brewing, the De'Longhi Alicia PLUS EMKM4.B automatically enters a keep-warm mode, maintaining the coffee at an optimal temperature for approximately 30 minutes. The indicator light may change or remain on during this period. After 30 minutes, the appliance will fully power off.
6. Cleaning and Maintenance
Regular cleaning ensures optimal performance and extends the life of your moka pot.
6.1 Daily Cleaning
- Always unplug the appliance and allow it to cool completely before cleaning.
- Unscrew the coffee container from the water boiler.
- Remove the filter funnel and discard used coffee grounds.
- Wash the coffee container, lid, filter funnel, and filter plate with warm water and mild detergent. Use a soft sponge or cloth.
- Rinse all parts thoroughly with clean water.
- Dry all components completely before reassembling or storing.
- Wipe the exterior of the water boiler and power base with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the water boiler or power base in water.
6.2 Descaling
Over time, mineral deposits (limescale) can build up inside the water boiler, affecting performance. Descale your moka pot every 2-3 months, or more frequently if you have hard water.
- Prepare a descaling solution according to the descaler manufacturer's instructions (e.g., white vinegar diluted with water, or a commercial descaling agent).
- Fill the water boiler with the descaling solution up to the pressure valve level.
- Assemble the moka pot without coffee.
- Place on the power base and run a brewing cycle as if making coffee.
- After the cycle, discard the solution.
- Rinse the moka pot thoroughly by running 2-3 cycles with clean water only.
Caution: Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, as they can damage the surfaces of the appliance.
