Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the installation, setup, and operation of your Leviton Decora Motion Sensor In-Wall Switch (Model IPS02-1LW). This device is designed to automatically turn lights ON when motion is detected and OFF when the room is vacated, offering convenience and energy savings. Please read all instructions carefully before beginning installation.

Important Safety Information

WARNING: TO AVOID FIRE, SHOCK OR DEATH; TURN OFF THE POWER AT THE CIRCUIT BREAKER OR FUSE AND TEST THAT POWER IS OFF BEFORE WIRING.

• Installation takes approximately 15 minutes.
• The wiring device shown in this video may be different from the one you are installing.
• This device may be used with copper or copper-clad wire only.
• For use with #12 AWG through #14 AWG wire.
• If you are unsure about any part of the instructions or are uncomfortable, contact a qualified electrician.

Tools Required

• Flathead Screwdriver

Installation Instructions

1. Prepare for Installation

1. Turn off Power: Locate the circuit breaker or fuse that controls the power to the switch you are replacing. Turn it OFF.
2. Verify Power is Off: Use a handheld voltage tester to confirm that the power is completely off at the switch box. Test all wires.
3. Identify Hot Wire: Turn the circuit breaker back ON briefly. Carefully use the voltage tester to identify the hot wire (the tester will indicate voltage). Once identified, immediately turn the circuit breaker OFF again and re-test to ensure power is off. Label the hot wire with a small piece of electrical tape for easy identification.
4. Identify Load and Ground Wires: In a typical wall box for this device, you will find one black wire (hot), a bare copper wire (ground), and another black wire (load). The color of wires can vary; if unsure, consult an electrician.
5. Prepare Wires: Ensure wires are straight and stripped according to the strip gauge located on the back of the device.

2. Wiring the Motion Sensor Switch

The IPS02-1LW switch offers the option of either wrapping leads around the terminal screws or using an external back-wire clamp. This guide demonstrates back-wiring.

• Connect Load Wire: Connect the load wall box wire to the terminal screw marked "RD" (Red).
• Connect Hot Wire: Connect the line hot wall box wire to the terminal screw marked "BK" (Black).
• Connect Ground Wire: Connect the green or bare copper wire in the wall box to the green terminal screw on the device.
• Neutral Wire: Neutral wires are NOT required for this installation and should be capped off and placed back into the wall box if present.

3. Mounting the Device

1. Position all wires to provide room in the outlet wall box for the device.
2. Ensure the word "TOP" is facing up on the device.
3. Partially screw in the mounting screws into the wall box mounting holes.

1. Initial Power-Up and Testing

1. Restore power at the circuit breaker or fuse.
2. For IPS02 (Occupancy Sensor): Lights will automatically turn ON after power is applied.
3. For IPV02/IPV05 (Vacancy Sensor): Press and release the push pad to turn the lights ON.

2. Adjusting Time-Out and Light Sensitivity

To access the adjustment dials, gently remove the face cover of the sensor.

• Time Selection: Use a mini flathead screwdriver to turn the Time Selection dial.
  • Position '0' = 30 seconds (recommended for testing)
  • Position '1' = 5 minutes
  • Position '2' = 15 minutes
  • Position '3' = 30 minutes
• Light Level Adjustment: Use a mini flathead screwdriver to turn the Light Level Adjustment dial.
  • Turn clockwise for lights to turn ON in lighter conditions (higher sensitivity).
  • Turn counter-clockwise for lights to turn ON in less light conditions (lower sensitivity).
  • For Vacancy Sensors (IPV series), light level sensitivity does not apply as they are manual-on.

After adjusting, replace the face cover.

3. Final Mounting

1. Tighten the mounting screws into the wall box.
2. Attach the wall plate.
3. Restore power at the circuit breaker.

Troubleshooting

• Lights do not turn off after 30 seconds (IPV Series): If lights do not turn off 30 seconds after leaving the room, decrease the sensitivity of the sensor.
• Lights do not turn on (IPS Series): If lights do not turn on automatically when you step back into the room, increase the sensitivity of the sensor.
• General Issues: If lights do not turn on or off as expected, refer to the troubleshooting section of the instructions provided with the product for detailed guidance. This may include checking wiring connections, bulb compatibility, or sensor placement.
