2. Safety Information
Always observe the following safety precautions to prevent injury or damage to the unit and your vehicle:
- Professional Installation Recommended: Installation of car audio equipment can be complex and may require specialized tools and knowledge. If you are unsure about any part of the installation process, consult a qualified car audio technician.
- Disconnect Battery: Before starting any wiring, disconnect the vehicle's negative battery terminal to prevent electrical shorts and damage.
- Proper Wiring: Ensure all wiring is correctly connected according to the diagrams in this manual. Incorrect wiring can cause damage to the subwoofer, vehicle's electrical system, or fire.
- Fuse Protection: Always use the correct fuse rating for the power connection to protect the unit and the vehicle's electrical system.
- Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation around the subwoofer. Do not block any vents. The unit can generate heat during operation.
- Avoid Moisture: This unit is not waterproof. Do not expose it to water or excessive moisture.
- Secure Mounting: Mount the subwoofer securely to prevent it from moving during vehicle operation, which could cause injury or damage.

5. Setup and Installation
Proper installation is crucial for the performance and longevity of your subwoofer. It is highly recommended to have this unit installed by a professional car audio technician.
5.1. Choosing a Mounting Location
The Caliber BC108US is designed for underseat mounting due to its compact dimensions. Consider the following when selecting a location:
- Clearance: Ensure there is sufficient space for the unit (35cm W x 23.5cm D x 7cm H) and adequate airflow around it.
- Security: The mounting surface must be sturdy enough to securely hold the subwoofer and prevent movement during driving.
- Accessibility: While not frequently accessed, consider the ease of connecting wires and adjusting controls if needed.
- Cable Routing: Plan the routing of power, ground, remote, and audio cables to avoid interference and ensure a neat installation.
5.2. Wiring Connections
Before making any connections, disconnect the negative terminal of your vehicle's battery.
- Power Connection (B+): Connect the yellow wire from the wiring harness to the positive (+) terminal of your vehicle's battery. Use an appropriate gauge wire and install an inline fuse (not supplied) as close to the battery as possible. The fuse rating should be suitable for a 500W peak power amplifier.
- Ground Connection (GND): Connect the black wire from the wiring harness to a clean, unpainted metal surface on the vehicle's chassis. Ensure a good electrical connection by scraping away any paint or rust.
- Remote Turn-On (REM): Connect the blue wire from the wiring harness to the remote turn-on output of your car stereo. This wire tells the subwoofer to turn on when your stereo is active. If your stereo does not have a remote output, you may connect it to an ignition-switched 12V source, but this may result in a slight turn-on pop.
- Audio Input (RCA or High-Level):
- RCA Input: If your car stereo has RCA pre-outs, connect them to the CH1 and CH2 RCA inputs on the subwoofer's rear panel.
- High-Level Input: If your car stereo does not have RCA pre-outs, use the high-level input wires on the supplied harness. Connect the speaker output wires from your car stereo directly to the corresponding high-level input wires on the subwoofer harness. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -).
- Remote Level Control: Connect the wired remote control to the "REMOTE" port on the subwoofer's rear panel. Route the cable to a convenient location for the driver to adjust bass levels.
Once all connections are made, re-connect the negative terminal of your vehicle's battery.
6. Operating Instructions
After successful installation, you can power on your car stereo to activate the subwoofer. Adjust the settings on the subwoofer's rear panel for optimal sound performance.
6.1. Controls and Adjustments
Refer to Figure 4.4 for the location of these controls:
- GAIN (Input Level Control): This knob adjusts the input sensitivity of the subwoofer. Start with the gain set to minimum (MIN). Play music through your car stereo and slowly increase the gain until you hear distortion, then back off slightly. This matches the subwoofer's input to your stereo's output level.
- FREQ (Low Pass Filter): This knob adjusts the crossover frequency from 50Hz to 160Hz. The subwoofer will only play frequencies below the set point. Adjust this to blend the subwoofer's output seamlessly with your main car speakers. A common starting point is around 80-100Hz.
- PHASE (Phase Switch): This switch allows you to select between 0° and 180° phase. Adjust this switch while listening to music to determine which setting provides the most impactful and cohesive bass response with your main speakers.
- REMOTE: Port for connecting the wired remote level control.
- POWER LED: Illuminates green when the subwoofer is powered on.
- PROTECT LED: Illuminates red if the subwoofer enters protection mode due to overheating, short circuit, or other issues.
6.2. Using the Wired Remote Control
The wired remote control allows you to conveniently adjust the bass level from the driver's seat without accessing the subwoofer unit directly. Rotate the knob to increase or decrease the subwoofer's output level.
7. Maintenance
The Caliber BC108US is designed for reliable operation with minimal maintenance. Follow these guidelines to ensure its longevity:
- Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior of the unit. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or harsh chemicals, as these can damage the finish.
- Ventilation: Periodically check that the area around the subwoofer is clear of obstructions to ensure proper airflow and prevent overheating.
- Connections: Occasionally inspect all wiring connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion. Loose connections can lead to poor performance or damage.
- Environmental Factors: Avoid exposing the unit to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight for prolonged periods, or excessive moisture.
