  • Heavy-Duty Meat Forks (2 sets): Designed to securely hold meat in place on the spit rod.

3. Setup and Installation

  1. Install Brackets: Attach the universal/OEM brackets to your grill according to your grill's manufacturer instructions. Ensure they are securely fastened and level.
  2. Assemble Spit Rod: If necessary, attach the 6-inch extension to the 33.5-inch spit rod to achieve the desired length for your grill. The spit rod should extend across the cooking area and fit into the motor and bracket.
  3. Attach Meat Forks: Slide one meat fork onto the spit rod with the prongs facing inward. Secure it loosely with its thumbscrew.
  4. Prepare Food: Skewer your meat (e.g., whole chicken, roast) onto the spit rod, ensuring it is centered as much as possible.
  5. Secure Food with Forks: Slide the second meat fork onto the spit rod, pushing its prongs firmly into the other end of the meat. Tighten both meat forks securely to prevent the meat from rotating independently of the rod.
  6. Balance Food (Counterbalance Kit): If the meat is unevenly weighted, attach the counterbalance kit to the spit rod. Adjust the weight until the meat rotates smoothly without significant wobble. This ensures even cooking.
  7. Mount Motor: Place the rotisserie motor onto its designated bracket on the grill.
  8. Insert Spit Rod: Insert the pointed end of the spit rod into the motor's drive socket. Rest the other end of the spit rod on the opposing grill bracket.
  9. Plug In Motor: Connect the rotisserie motor to a grounded electrical outlet.

4. Operating Instructions

  1. Preheat Grill: Preheat your grill to the desired temperature for rotisserie cooking. For best results, use indirect heat (burners directly under the meat turned off).
  2. Start Rotation: Turn on the rotisserie motor using the on/off switch. The spit rod should begin to rotate smoothly.
  3. Monitor Cooking: Close the grill lid and monitor the cooking process. The continuous rotation ensures even browning and cooking.
  4. Use Drip Pan (Optional): For longer cooks or to collect drippings for basting/gravy, place a Broil King stainless roasting pan or similar drip pan directly below the meat on the grill grates. This also helps prevent flare-ups.
  5. Check Doneness: Use a meat thermometer to check the internal temperature of your food. Cook until the desired internal temperature is reached.
  6. Remove Food: Once cooked, turn off the rotisserie motor and unplug it. Carefully remove the spit rod from the grill using heat-resistant gloves. Place the spit rod on a cutting board or platter.
  7. Carve and Serve: Loosen the meat forks and carefully slide the meat off the spit rod. Allow the meat to rest for a few minutes before carving and serving.

5. Maintenance and Care

Proper cleaning and maintenance will extend the life of your rotisserie kit.

  • Cleaning Spit Rod and Forks: After each use, allow the spit rod and meat forks to cool. Wash them with warm, soapy water and a non-abrasive sponge. Rinse thoroughly and dry completely before storing.
  • Cleaning Motor: The rotisserie motor should be wiped clean with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the motor in water or any other liquid.
  • Storage: Store all components in a dry place when not in use. The spit rod can be disassembled for compact storage.

6. Troubleshooting

Problem Possible Cause Solution
Motor not turning on. Motor not plugged in; power switch off; power outlet malfunction. Ensure motor is securely plugged into a working outlet. Check the on/off switch. Test the outlet with another appliance.
Spit rod not rotating smoothly or stopping. Meat is unbalanced; meat forks are loose; meat is too heavy; motor is overloaded. Adjust the counterbalance kit. Ensure meat forks are tightly secured. Reduce the weight of the meat if it exceeds the motor's capacity.
Meat slipping on the spit rod. Meat forks are not securely tightened. Ensure both meat forks are firmly pressed into the meat and their thumbscrews are tightened.
