Setup

1. Battery Installation

Insert the provided lithium-ion battery into the battery compartment located at the bottom of the camera. Ensure the battery is oriented correctly according to the diagram inside the compartment. Close the battery compartment cover securely.

2. Memory Card Insertion

The FinePix SL1000 uses SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards. Open the memory card slot cover, typically located near the battery compartment. Insert the memory card with the label facing the correct direction until it clicks into place. Close the cover.

3. Initial Charging

Before first use, fully charge the battery using the supplied battery charger. Connect the charger to a power outlet and insert the battery. The charging indicator light will show the charging status.

4. Attaching the Neck Strap

Thread the neck strap through the strap lugs on both sides of the camera body. Ensure it is securely fastened to prevent accidental drops.

Operating the Camera

Power On/Off

To power on the camera, slide the spring-loaded power switch located on the top plate just behind the grip. To power off, slide the switch again.

Basic Photography

The camera offers various modes for different shooting scenarios. The mode dial on top of the camera allows you to select your desired shooting mode.

  • AUTO Mode: For simple point-and-shoot operation, the camera automatically adjusts settings for optimal results.
  • PASM Modes: For advanced users, the Program (P), Shutter-priority (S), Aperture-priority (A), and Manual (M) modes provide greater control over exposure settings.
  • Scene Modes: Pre-set modes optimized for specific scenes like Portrait, Landscape, Sport, etc.

To take a picture, press the shutter button located on the top of the camera. Press halfway to focus, then press fully to capture the image.

Zoom Control

The FinePix SL1000 features a 50x optical zoom lens. You can control the zoom using the side lever on the lens barrel. Adjust the zoom with your left hand while preparing to press the shutter with your right.

Viewfinder and LCD Screen

The camera is equipped with both a high-resolution electronic viewfinder (EVF) and a 3.0-inch tilting LCD screen. You can switch between the two using the dedicated button next to the EVF. An eye sensor automatically switches to the EVF when you bring your eye to it, turning off the LCD to conserve battery.

Flash Operation

The camera has a built-in pop-up flash. To activate it, press the flash release button. The camera also features a hot-shoe for attaching external flash units, providing more lighting options for advanced photography.

RAW and JPEG Formats

The FinePix SL1000 supports both JPEG and RAW image formats. JPEG files are processed and compressed by the camera, ready for immediate use. RAW files contain unprocessed sensor data, offering maximum flexibility for post-processing with software like the included Raw File Converter EX.

Video Recording

To record video, press the dedicated video record button. The camera supports Full HD (1080i/60fps) video recording in H.264 format. Ensure you have sufficient memory card space and battery life before recording.

Playback

Press the playback button to review your captured photos and videos. You can zoom in on details or view multiple images as thumbnails. Basic editing functions like red-eye removal, cropping, and resizing are available in the playback menu.

Maintenance

Cleaning the Camera

Regularly clean the camera body with a soft, dry cloth. For the lens, use a lens brush or a specialized lens cleaning cloth and solution. Avoid touching the lens surface directly with your fingers. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

Battery Care

Store the battery in a cool, dry place when not in use. Avoid exposing the battery to extreme temperatures. If the camera will not be used for an extended period, remove the battery to prevent discharge and potential damage.
