1. Introduction

The HID OMNIKEY 3121 is a high-performance USB smart card reader designed for desktop use. 2. Setup

2.1 Package Contents

2.2 Physical Connection

3. Operation

3.1 Inserting a Smart Card

The reader features an LED indicator that will illuminate to confirm proper card insertion and activity.

3.2 LED Indicators

  • Green LED: Indicates the reader is powered on and ready.
  • Flashing Green LED: Indicates card activity (data transfer).
  • Red LED (if present): May indicate an error or specific status depending on the application.

3.3 Software Compatibility

4. Maintenance

4.1 Cleaning

5. Troubleshooting

5.1 Card Not Recognized

  • Try Another USB Port: Connect the reader to a different USB port on your computer.
  • Restart Computer: A system restart can often resolve temporary communication issues.

5.2 Reader Not Detected by Computer

  • USB Connection: Ensure the USB cable is securely connected to both the reader and the computer.

  • Driver Installation: Reinstall drivers if necessary, especially after operating system updates.
