5. Setup

5.1. Mounting the Radio

Choose a secure and accessible location for mounting the radio in your vehicle or operating station. Use the provided mounting bracket and hardware to firmly attach the radio, ensuring adequate ventilation around the unit.

5.2. Power Connection

Connect the red wire of the power cord to the positive (+) terminal of your vehicle's 12V DC battery or a suitable power supply. Connect the black wire to the negative (-) terminal or chassis ground. Ensure all connections are secure and properly fused to prevent electrical damage.

5.3. Antenna Connection

Connect a properly tuned 10-meter amateur radio antenna to the antenna connector on the rear of the radio. An SWR (Standing Wave Ratio) meter should be used to ensure the antenna is correctly tuned for the operating frequency to prevent damage to the radio.

5.4. Microphone Connection

Plug the microphone connector into the designated microphone jack on the front panel of the radio.

5.5. Initial Power On

After all connections are made, turn the radio on using the power switch. Adjust the Volume and Squelch controls as needed. Important Note: This radio is designed as a 10-meter amateur radio. For operation on 11-meter CB frequencies, professional modification by a qualified technician may be required. Operation on frequencies outside of amateur radio bands without proper licensing or modification may be illegal and can result in poor performance or damage to the unit.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1. Basic Operation (AM/FM)

  1. Turn the radio on and adjust the Volume to a comfortable listening level.
  2. Adjust the Squelch control clockwise until background noise disappears.
  3. Use the Band Selector to choose your desired operating frequency band.
  4. Select AM or FM mode as required for your communication.
  5. To transmit, press the PTT (Push-To-Talk) button on the microphone and speak clearly into the microphone. Release the PTT button to receive.

6.2. Using Roger Beep

The Roger Beep feature provides an audible tone at the end of your transmission, signaling to other operators that you have finished speaking. To activate or deactivate the Roger Beep, use the NB/ANL/Roger Beep switch as indicated in the Controls and Functions section.

6.3. Adjusting Audio and RF

Use the Mic Gain control to adjust your microphone's sensitivity for clear transmission. The RF Gain control allows you to fine-tune the receiver's sensitivity, which can be useful in areas with strong or weak signals.

6.4. Channel Selection

The radio features 10 channels within its frequency range. Use the channel selector knob to navigate between available channels.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Regularly wipe the radio's exterior with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Connections: Periodically check all power and antenna connections to ensure they are secure and free from corrosion.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the radio's ventilation openings are not obstructed to prevent overheating.
  • Storage: If storing the radio for an extended period, disconnect it from power and store it in a cool, dry place.

8. Troubleshooting

  • No Power: Check power connections, fuses, and the vehicle's battery. Ensure the power switch is in the 'On' position.
  • No Transmission/Reception: Verify antenna connection and SWR. Check microphone connection. Ensure the correct operating mode (AM/FM) and band are selected. Adjust RF Gain and Squelch.
  • Poor Audio Quality: Adjust Mic Gain and Volume controls. Check microphone for damage. Ensure antenna is properly tuned.
  • Radio Not Functioning on CB Frequencies: As noted in the Setup section, this radio is primarily a 10-meter amateur radio. If you intend to use it for 11-meter CB communication, professional modification is typically required. Without this modification, the radio may not transmit or receive effectively on CB channels.
  • Excessive Noise: Adjust Squelch. Activate NB/ANL. Check for external interference sources.

If problems persist after following these troubleshooting steps, please contact a qualified radio technician or the manufacturer's support.
