Setup Instructions

  1. Identify Connectors:
    • The 8-pin modular connector is designed to plug into your Kenwood transceiver.
    • The 4-pin XLR female connector is designed to receive the male XLR plug from your microphone.
    • The 1/4 inch jack is for connecting an external PTT switch or foot pedal.
  2. Connect to Transceiver: Carefully insert the 8-pin modular connector into the microphone input port on your Kenwood transceiver. Ensure it clicks securely into place.
  3. Connect to Microphone: Plug the male 4-pin XLR connector from your microphone into the 4-pin XLR female end of the CC-1-KM cable. Ensure a firm connection.
  4. Connect PTT (Optional): If using an external PTT device, plug its 1/4 inch connector into the 1/4 inch jack on the CC-1-KM cable.
  5. Cable Routing: Route the 8-foot cable in a manner that avoids kinks, sharp bends, or entanglement with other equipment. This helps prevent damage and ensures optimal performance.

Operating Instructions

Once the cable is properly connected, your microphone should be ready for use with your Kenwood transceiver. Ensure your transceiver's microphone settings are configured correctly for the connected microphone type.

  • Secure Connections: Always ensure all connectors are fully seated and secure before operating your equipment to prevent intermittent audio or signal loss.
  • PTT Functionality: If an external PTT switch is connected, pressing it will activate the transmit function on your transceiver. Release to return to receive mode.
  • Audio Monitoring: Monitor your audio output through your transceiver's monitoring features or a separate receiver to confirm proper signal transmission.

Maintenance

Proper maintenance extends the life and ensures reliable performance of your cable.

  • Storage: When not in use, coil the cable loosely. Avoid tight coiling or wrapping around sharp objects, which can damage internal wiring.
  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe down the cable and connectors. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive materials. Ensure connectors are free of dust and debris.
  • Inspection: Periodically inspect the cable for any signs of wear, cuts, or damage to the insulation or connectors. If damage is observed, discontinue use and consider replacement.
  • Environmental Conditions: While suitable for indoor and outdoor use, avoid prolonged exposure to extreme temperatures, direct sunlight, or moisture when possible.

Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues, review the following common troubleshooting steps:

  • No Audio Transmission:
    • Ensure all cable connections (microphone to cable, cable to transceiver) are secure.
    • Verify the microphone is powered on (if applicable) and functioning correctly.
    • Check your transceiver's microphone input settings and volume levels.
    • Test with a different microphone or cable if available to isolate the issue.
  • Intermittent Audio or Static:
    • Check for loose connections at both-ends of the cable.
    • Inspect the cable for any visible damage or kinks.
    • Ensure the cable is not running near sources of strong electromagnetic interference.
  • PTT Not Functioning:
    • Ensure the external PTT switch is correctly plugged into the 1/4 inch jack.
    • Verify the PTT switch itself is functional.
    • Check transceiver settings related to external PTT input.
