Maintenance

Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure your Keurig K45 Elite Brewing System continues to perform optimally.

Cleaning the Drip Tray:

  • The drip tray can accumulate overflow. Remove the drip tray and its cover.
  • Empty any liquid and wash with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.
  • The drip tray and cover are top-rack dishwasher safe.

Cleaning the K-Cup Holder Assembly:

  • The K-Cup holder assembly can be removed for cleaning.
  • Lift the brewer handle. Grasp the top of the K-Cup holder and pull it up and away from the brewer.
  • Separate the funnel from the K-Cup holder. Wash both parts with warm, soapy water.
  • To clean the exit needle, insert a paper clip into the exit needle to loosen any coffee grounds.
  • Reassemble the K-Cup holder and reinsert it into the brewer.

Descaling Your Brewer:

Minerals in water can build up in your brewer over time, affecting performance. Descaling should be done every 3-6 months, or when the "De-scale" indicator light illuminates.

  1. Prepare: Turn off the brewer. Empty the water reservoir. Remove the water filter if installed.
  2. Add Descaling Solution: Pour an entire bottle of Keurig Descaling Solution into the water reservoir. Fill the empty bottle with water and pour it into the reservoir.
  3. Cleansing Brews (Part 1): Place a large mug on the drip tray. Lift and lower the handle without a K-Cup. Press the largest brew size button. Repeat this process until the "Add Water" indicator illuminates.
  4. Soak: Let the brewer stand for at least 30 minutes while still on.
  5. Cleansing Brews (Part 2): After 30 minutes, empty the mug and place it back on the drip tray. Lift and lower the handle without a K-Cup. Press the largest brew size button. Repeat until the "Add Water" indicator illuminates.
  6. Fresh Water Rinse: Rinse the water reservoir thoroughly. Fill it with fresh water up to the MAX fill line.
  7. Fresh Water Brews: Perform at least 12 cleansing brews using fresh water, using the largest brew size, until all descaling solution is flushed out. You may need to refill the reservoir multiple times.
  8. Your brewer is now descaled.

Water Filter Replacement:

The charcoal water filter should be replaced every 2 months or 60 tank refills for best results.

  • Remove the old filter cartridge from the water filter handle.
  • Follow the "Installing the Water Filter" steps in the Setup section to install a new filter.
