Setup and Initial Use
Unpacking: Carefully remove the helmet from its packaging. Inspect for any visible damage.
Fit Adjustment (Air Pump System): The helmet features an air pump fit system. Locate the small pump button, typically near the chin bar or neck roll. Press the button repeatedly to inflate the air bladders for a snug fit around your cheeks and jawline. To release air, locate the small release valve button, usually adjacent to the pump button, and press it. Adjust until the helmet feels secure without excessive pressure points.
Chin Strap Fastening: The helmet is equipped with a quick-release chin strap.
Insert the male end of the strap into the female buckle until it clicks securely.
Pull the strap to ensure it is firmly latched.
Adjust the strap length so it is snug under your chin, allowing only two fingers to fit between the strap and your chin.
To release, pull the red tab on the quick-release buckle.
Visor Inspection: Ensure the clear outer visor is securely attached and operates smoothly. Check for any protective films that need to be removed.
Operating the Helmet Features
Outer Visor Operation: The clear outer visor can be opened and closed using the tab located on the bottom edge. It features multiple detent positions to allow for varying levels of airflow. To fully open or close, apply gentle pressure.
Internal Sun Visor (Ergo Touch Control): The helmet includes a retractable internal sun visor. Locate the Ergo Touch control slider, typically on the left side of the helmet near the base. Slide it forward to deploy the sun visor and backward to retract it. This visor is intended for sun glare reduction and should not be used as the primary eye protection.
Ventilation System: The FF396 FT2 features adjustable flow-through ventilation.
Chin Vent: Open or close the slider on the chin bar to control airflow to the face and visor, helping to reduce fogging.
Top Vents: Operate the sliders on the top of the helmet to open or close the intake vents, allowing air to flow over the scalp.
Rear Exhaust Vents: These vents are typically passive and work in conjunction with the intake vents to draw warm air out of the helmet. Ensure they are not obstructed.
Maintenance and Care
Proper maintenance extends the life of your helmet and ensures continued safety and comfort.
Shell Cleaning:
Clean the helmet shell with a soft, damp cloth and mild soap (e.g., baby shampoo). Avoid harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the shell material and graphics. Rinse thoroughly with clean water and dry with a soft, lint-free cloth.
Visor Cleaning:
Remove the outer visor for cleaning. Use a soft cloth and warm water with a small amount of mild soap. For stubborn dirt or insects, soak a wet cloth on the affected area for a few minutes before gently wiping. Dry with a clean, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive materials or window cleaners, which can scratch or damage the visor coating. The internal sun visor can be wiped gently with a damp cloth.
Liner Care:
The moisture-wicking, anti-bacterial liner is fully removable. Gently detach the liner components (cheek pads, crown pad) from the helmet. Hand wash in cool water with mild soap or a specialized helmet liner cleaner. Rinse thoroughly and air dry completely before reinstalling. Do not machine wash or tumble dry.
Storage:
Store your helmet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Use a helmet bag to protect it from dust and scratches. Do not store the helmet near chemicals or solvents.
Troubleshooting Common Issues
Issue
Possible Cause
Solution
Visor Fogging
Lack of airflow, temperature difference.
Open chin vent or top vents. Slightly crack the visor open. Consider anti-fog treatments or a Pinlock insert (if compatible).
Helmet feels too loose/tight
Improper air pump adjustment or incorrect size.
Adjust the air pump fit system. If still too loose/tight, ensure you have the correct helmet size for your head circumference.
Excessive Wind Noise
Visor not fully closed, improper fit, or external factors.
Ensure all vents and visors are fully closed. Check helmet fit. Wind noise can also be affected by motorcycle fairings or riding posture.
