Setup

1. Placement: Place the soldering station power supply on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.
2. Connect Iron: Insert the soldering iron's connector securely into the designated port on the front of the power supply unit.
3. Position Iron Holder: Place the iron holder in a convenient and safe location near your workspace. Ensure it is stable and will not tip over.
4. Prepare Cleaning Sponge: If using the sponge, lightly dampen it with water. Squeeze out any excess water until it is just moist. Place it in the designated sponge tray on the iron holder. The brass wool (water-less cleaner) can be used dry.

Operating Instructions

Powering On and Temperature Control

1. Power On: Flip the power switch located on the side of the unit to the 'ON' position. The digital display will illuminate.
2. Set Temperature: Use the "UP" and "DOWN" arrow buttons to adjust the desired temperature. The Hakko FX-888D supports a temperature range of approximately 399°F to 850°F (200°C to 450°C).

• Tip Tinning: Before first use and periodically during operation, tin the soldering iron tip by melting a small amount of solder onto it. This helps with heat transfer and prevents oxidation.
• Tip Cleaning: Regularly clean the tip using the damp sponge or the brass wool cleaner to remove old solder and oxidation.
• Application: Apply the heated tip to the joint to be soldered, ensuring both components are heated simultaneously. Then, apply solder to the heated joint, not directly to the iron tip.

• Clean Regularly: Always clean the soldering tip before returning it to the holder and before starting a new soldering task.
• Re-tin After Use: After cleaning, apply a fresh coat of solder to the tip before storing it. This protects the tip from oxidation and prolongs its life.
• Replace Worn Tips: If the tip becomes pitted, discolored, or no longer accepts solder easily, it may need to be replaced. Genuine Hakko T18 series tips are recommended for optimal performance.

• Wipe Down: Use a soft, damp cloth to wipe down the exterior of the power supply unit and the iron holder. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.
