Package Contents

  • TFA Dostmann Look 35.1123 Main Unit
  • Wireless Outdoor Temperature Sensor (Thermo-transmitter)
  • Instruction Manual
  • Batteries are not included. (Requires 4 x AAA batteries)

Setup

1. Battery Installation

  1. Main Unit: Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the main unit. Insert 2 x AAA 1.5V batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-). Close the cover.
  2. Outdoor Sensor: Open the battery compartment cover on the back of the outdoor sensor. Insert 2 x AAA 1.5V batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-). Close the cover.

Note: Always insert batteries into the outdoor sensor first, then into the main unit, to ensure proper synchronization.

2. Sensor Synchronization

After battery installation, the main unit will automatically attempt to connect with the outdoor sensor. This process may take a few minutes. Ensure the sensor is within approximately 30 meters (100 feet) of the main unit and free from major obstructions like thick walls or large metal objects.

If the outdoor temperature is not displayed after a few minutes, press the "SEARCH" or "CHANNEL" button on the main unit (refer to button layout in Operating section) to manually initiate a search for the sensor.

3. Placement

  • Main Unit: Place the main unit indoors in a central location, away from direct sunlight, heat sources, or drafts that could affect indoor temperature readings.
  • Outdoor Sensor: Mount the outdoor sensor in a sheltered location outdoors, protected from direct rain and sunlight, which can cause inaccurate temperature readings. A north-facing wall or under an eave is often ideal. Ensure it is within the 30-meter wireless range of the main unit.

Operating Instructions

Display Overview

The main display shows various information at a glance:

  • Time and Date: Large digits at the top.
  • Moon Phase: Indication of the current moon phase.
  • Indoor Humidity (%): Percentage of relative humidity indoors.
  • Indoor Temperature (°C/°F): Current indoor temperature.
  • Outdoor Temperature (°C/°F): Current outdoor temperature received from the wireless sensor.
  • Weather Forecast Symbols: Icons indicating predicted weather (sunny, partly cloudy, cloudy, rain). These are based on changes in atmospheric pressure.

Setting Time, Date, and Alarm

Refer to the buttons on the back or side of the main unit (typically labeled MODE, SET, UP, DOWN, ALARM, SNOOZE).

  1. Time/Date Setting: Press and hold the "MODE" or "SET" button to enter time setting mode. Use "UP" and "DOWN" buttons to adjust values (hours, minutes, year, month, day). Press "MODE" or "SET" again to confirm each setting and move to the next.
  2. Alarm Setting: Press the "ALARM" button once to view the alarm time. Press and hold "ALARM" to enter alarm setting mode. Use "UP" and "DOWN" to set the desired alarm time. Press "ALARM" again to confirm.
  3. Activating/Deactivating Alarm: Press the "ALARM" button repeatedly to toggle the alarm on/off. An alarm icon will appear on the display when active.
  4. Snooze Function: When the alarm sounds, press the "SNOOZE" button to temporarily silence it. The alarm will sound again after a few minutes (typically 5-10 minutes).

Viewing Maximum and Minimum Values

The weather station records the highest and lowest temperatures and humidity levels since the last reset. Press the "MAX/MIN" button (or similar) to cycle through:

  • Current values
  • Maximum recorded values (MAX)
  • Minimum recorded values (MIN)

To reset the MAX/MIN values, press and hold the "MAX/MIN" button while the maximum or minimum values are displayed.

Understanding Weather Forecast

The weather forecast symbols (sunny, partly cloudy, cloudy, rain) are based on internal atmospheric pressure changes detected by the main unit. These are predictions and may not always perfectly match local conditions. The accuracy improves over time as the unit learns local pressure patterns.

Maintenance

Battery Replacement

When the battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries in the respective unit (main unit or outdoor sensor). Always replace all batteries at once with new ones of the same type (AAA 1.5V). Dispose of old batteries responsibly according to local regulations.

Cleaning

Clean the display and casing of both units with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents, as these can damage the plastic and electronic components. Ensure no moisture enters the battery compartments or other openings.

Sensor Care

Periodically check the outdoor sensor for any debris, dust, or insect nests that might obstruct its ventilation holes or sensors. Ensure it remains protected from direct weather elements to prolong its lifespan and accuracy.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No outdoor temperature reading (dashes displayed).
  • Sensor out of range.
  • Batteries in sensor are low or depleted.
  • Interference from other electronic devices.
  • Sensor not properly synchronized.
  • Move sensor closer to the main unit.
  • Replace batteries in the outdoor sensor.
  • Relocate the main unit or sensor away from potential interference sources (e.g., TVs, computers).
  • Press the "SEARCH" or "CHANNEL" button on the main unit to re-initiate synchronization.
Inaccurate temperature readings (indoor/outdoor).
  • Main unit or sensor exposed to direct sunlight, heat sources, or drafts.
  • Sensor not properly ventilated.
  • Significant temperature difference between main unit and sensor (as noted in some user reviews, a 6-degree difference has been observed).
  • Relocate units to a more stable environment, away from direct influences.
  • Ensure the outdoor sensor is in a shaded, well-ventilated area.
  • While some variance can occur, if the difference is consistently large, ensure both units are in stable conditions and consider replacing batteries or contacting support.
Display is dim or blank.
  • Batteries in main unit are low or depleted.
  • Incorrect battery polarity.
  • Replace batteries in the main unit.
  • Check battery orientation.
Time is incorrect or not updating automatically.
  • Time needs to be set manually (this model does not feature radio-controlled time synchronization).
  • Manually set the time and date as described in the "Operating Instructions" section.
