2. Setup and Assembly

Your Petmate Sky Kennel arrives in two main sections: the base and the top, along with the door and hardware. Follow these steps for proper assembly:

  1. Unpack Components: Carefully remove all components from the packaging. You should find the top and bottom plastic halves, a metal door, a food/water cup, "LIVE ANIMAL" stickers, and a bag of wing-nuts and bolts.
  2. Align Halves: Place the bottom half of the kennel on a flat surface. Carefully align the top half over the bottom half, ensuring all edges and bolt holes match up.
  3. Secure with Bolts: Insert the provided bolts through the designated holes around the perimeter of the kennel where the top and bottom halves meet. Secure each bolt with a wing-nut from the inside. Ensure all bolts are tightened securely to prevent separation during transport.
  4. Install Door: Position the metal door into the front opening. The door features an easy-squeeze latch mechanism. Insert the top and bottom pins of the door into their respective slots on the kennel frame. Ensure the latch operates smoothly and securely.
  5. Attach Accessories: The kennel includes a clip-on food and water cup that can be attached to the inside of the door. Apply the "LIVE ANIMAL" stickers to the exterior of the kennel as required for airline travel.

3. Sizing Guide

Choosing the correct kennel size is crucial for your pet's comfort and safety, especially during travel. The Petmate Sky Kennel is designed to provide ample space for your pet to stand, turn around, and lie down naturally.

How to Measure Your Pet:

  • Length: Measure your pet from the tip of their nose to the base of their tail. Add 3-4 inches to this measurement for optimal kennel length.
  • Height: Measure your pet from the top of their head (or ears, if taller) to the floor. Add 3-4 inches to this measurement for optimal kennel height.

Ensure your pet can stand up without their head touching the top of the kennel and can turn around comfortably inside.

4. Operating Instructions

Using your Petmate Sky Kennel is straightforward, designed for ease of use and pet security.

Door Operation:

The kennel features an easy-squeeze latch door. To open, simply squeeze the latch mechanism and pull the door outwards. To close, push the door shut until the latch securely engages. For added security during air travel, airlines may require zip ties to be placed through designated holes on the door and kennel frame.

  • Always check with your specific airline for their most current pet travel requirements before your trip, as regulations can vary.
  • Utilize the included "LIVE ANIMAL" stickers and pet information stickers to clearly label the kennel.
  • Ensure the clip-on food and water cup is securely attached and accessible for airline personnel to provide sustenance if needed.
  • The kennel features integrated side handles and tie-down strap holes for secure handling and transport.

5. Maintenance and Cleaning

The Petmate Sky Kennel is designed for easy maintenance and cleaning to ensure a hygienic environment for your pet.

  • Regular Cleaning: Wipe down the interior and exterior of the kennel with a damp cloth and mild, pet-safe detergent. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry completely before use.
  • Deep Cleaning: For a more thorough cleaning, the top and bottom halves of the kennel can be separated by unscrewing the bolts. This allows for easy access to all surfaces.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the 360-degree ventilation openings are free from obstructions to maintain proper airflow for your pet.

6. Troubleshooting

While the Petmate Sky Kennel is designed for reliability, here are some common considerations:

  • Pet Discomfort: If your pet shows signs of discomfort or anxiety in the kennel, ensure it is the correct size (refer to Sizing Guide). Introduce the kennel gradually, using positive reinforcement and treats, to help your pet associate it with a safe and comfortable space.
  • Airline Acceptance: Always confirm specific airline requirements well in advance of travel. Some airlines may have additional rules regarding kennel construction, ventilation, or accessories.
  • Damaged Components: Inspect the kennel regularly for any signs of wear or damage. Do not use the kennel if any structural components are cracked or broken. Contact Petmate customer support for replacement parts.
