1. Introduction
This manual provides essential information for the safe and effective installation, operation, and maintenance of the Siemens ED63A050 Type ED6-ETI Motor Circuit Interrupter Breaker. Please read this manual thoroughly before attempting any installation or operation. Retain this manual for future reference.
2. Safety Information
WARNING: Risk of Electric Shock or Arc Flash Hazard.
This product must be installed, operated, and maintained by qualified electrical personnel only. Failure to follow these instructions can result in death, serious injury, or equipment damage.
- Always de-energize the electrical system before working on or near the circuit breaker.
- Use appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) as required by local safety regulations.
- Verify proper voltage and current ratings before installation.
- Ensure all connections are secure and torqued to specifications to prevent overheating.
- Do not bypass or modify the circuit breaker.
3. Product Overview
The Siemens ED63A050 is a 3-pole, 50 Amp motor circuit interrupter breaker designed for instantaneous magnetic trip only. It is suitable for use in single-phase AC circuits and rated for 600VAC and 250VDC. This device provides short-circuit protection for motor circuits.

4. Setup and Installation
The ED63A050 circuit breaker is designed for wall mount installation. Proper installation is crucial for safety and performance. Refer to the wiring diagram of your electrical panel and local electrical codes.
4.1. Pre-Installation Checks
- Ensure the main power supply to the panel is OFF and locked out.
- Confirm the circuit breaker's ratings (50 Amp, 3 Pole, 600VAC/250VDC) match the application requirements.
- Inspect the breaker for any physical damage. Do not install damaged equipment.
4.2. Wiring Connections
Refer to the product label for specific lug information and torque requirements. Incorrect wire size or torque can lead to hazardous conditions.

| Connection No. | Wire Size Cu/Al | Torque lb-in. [N-m] |
|---|---|---|
| LN100 | 10 | 20 [2.3] |
| 8 | 36 [4.1] | |
| 6-4 | 45 [5.1] | |
| 3 | 50 [5.7] | |

- Mount the circuit breaker securely in the designated panel slot or enclosure.
- Connect the load wires to the appropriate terminals on the circuit breaker.
- Connect the line wires to the appropriate terminals.
- Tighten all terminal screws to the torque specifications provided on the product label.
- Ensure no bare wire is exposed outside the terminals.
5. Operating Instructions
The Siemens ED63A050 is an instantaneous magnetic trip only circuit breaker, meaning it responds rapidly to short-circuit conditions without a thermal overload element.
5.1. Turning On/Off
- To Turn On: Push the handle firmly to the 'ON' position.
- To Turn Off: Push the handle firmly to the 'OFF' position.
5.2. Trip Indication and Reset
When a short-circuit occurs, the breaker will trip, and the handle will move to a central, tripped position. A red indicator may also be visible.
- To Reset: First, move the handle completely to the 'OFF' position. Then, push the handle firmly to the 'ON' position.
- The breaker also features a 'PUSH TO TRIP' button for testing purposes. Pressing this button will manually trip the breaker.
IMPORTANT: If the breaker trips repeatedly, do not force it back on. Investigate and resolve the cause of the short-circuit before attempting to reset the breaker.
6. Maintenance
Regular inspection and maintenance can help ensure the longevity and reliable operation of your circuit breaker.
- Annual Inspection: Visually inspect the breaker for any signs of physical damage, discoloration, or loose connections.
- Cleaning: Keep the breaker free from dust and debris. Use a dry, non-conductive cloth for cleaning. Do not use liquids or solvents.
- Connection Check: Periodically check terminal screw torque, especially after initial installation and during routine maintenance.
- Testing: The 'PUSH TO TRIP' button can be used to periodically test the mechanical tripping mechanism.
WARNING: Always de-energize the circuit before performing any maintenance or inspection.
7. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your circuit breaker.
7.1. Breaker Trips Frequently
- Cause: Short-circuit in the protected circuit.
- Action: Disconnect all loads from the circuit. Reset the breaker. If it trips again immediately, there is a fault in the wiring. If it holds, reconnect loads one by one to identify the faulty device. Consult a qualified electrician.
7.2. Breaker Does Not Reset
- Cause: Persistent short-circuit or internal breaker fault.
- Action: Ensure the handle is moved fully to the 'OFF' position before attempting to reset to 'ON'. If it still does not reset, there may be a severe fault in the circuit or the breaker itself is damaged. Do not force the handle. Replace the breaker if it is faulty.
7.3. Breaker Feels Hot
- Cause: Loose connections, overloaded circuit (though this breaker is magnetic trip only, severe overload can still cause heat), or internal fault.
- Action: Immediately de-energize the circuit. Check all connections for tightness. Ensure the connected load does not exceed the breaker's 50 Amp rating. If the issue persists, replace the breaker.
