1. Product Overview

The Sonicwall TZ105 is a Unified Threat Management (UTM) firewall designed for small offices, home offices, and small retail environments. It provides intrusion prevention, anti-malware, and content/URL filtering capabilities. 2. Initial Setup

2.1 Unpacking and Contents

Carefully unpack the Sonicwall TZ105 and verify that all components are present.

2.2 Physical Installation

Place the appliance on a stable, flat surface with adequate ventilation. Connect the necessary cables as described below.

1. Connect your internet source (e.g., modem) to the WAN port (X1) on the Sonicwall TZ105 using an Ethernet cable.
2. Connect a computer or network switch to one of the LAN ports (X0, X2, X3, X4) using an Ethernet cable.
3. For initial configuration, you may use the Console port with a serial cable (not included) to connect to a computer.

2.3 Powering On

Connect the power adapter to the 12V === 1.5A 18W power input on the rear of the appliance, then plug the adapter into an electrical outlet. The device will begin its startup sequence.

3. Operation

3.1 Basic Configuration

After powering on, access the device's web management interface by opening a web browser on a connected computer and entering the default IP address (refer to the Quick Start Guide for the specific default IP). Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the initial configuration, including setting up network parameters and administrative credentials.

The Sonicwall TZ105 offers a range of security and networking features:

• Firewall Protection: Includes remote access authentication, content filtering, malware protection, URL filtering, web content filtering, deep inspection firewall, reassembly-free deep packet inspection, gateway antivirus, anti-spyware, Denial of Service (DoS) and Distributed Denial of Service (DDoS) protection, egress filtering, cookies blocking, and dead peer detection.
• Encryption Standards: Supports DES, 3DES, AES (128-bit, 142-bit, 256-bit), SHA-1, and MD5 for secure communications.
• Network Features: Intrusion Prevention System (IPS), Network Address Translation (NAT), Port Address Translation (PAT), IPSec NAT Traversal, 5 RJ-45 network ports (Fast Ethernet, 10/100Base-TX).
• Virtualization Capabilities: Supports up to 8000 maximum UTM/DPI connections, 8000 maximum connections, 1000 new connections per second, 1 SonicPoint, 5 site-to-site VPN tunnels, and 5 VLANs.
