1. Important Safety Information
Always read and understand this manual before operating the HECHT-45 chainsaw. Failure to follow safety instructions can result in serious injury or death. Keep this manual for future reference.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) including a helmet, eye protection, hearing protection, gloves, and safety boots.
- Ensure the work area is clear of bystanders, children, and pets.
- Do not operate the chainsaw when fatigued, under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or medication.
- Inspect the chainsaw before each use for damaged parts, loose fasteners, or fuel leaks.
- Always hold the chainsaw firmly with both hands.
2. Setup and Assembly
2.1 Unpacking
Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Verify that all parts listed in the packing list are present and undamaged. Retain packaging for potential future transport or storage.
2.2 Bar and Chain Installation
The guide bar and saw chain must be installed before initial operation.
- Remove the chain brake cover by loosening the two nuts.
- Place the saw chain around the sprocket and guide bar, ensuring the cutting edges face forward on the top side of the bar.
- Mount the guide bar onto the studs, aligning the chain tensioner pin with the hole in the guide bar.
- Replace the chain brake cover and lightly tighten the nuts.
- Adjust chain tension using the tensioning screw. The chain should be snug against the guide bar but still able to be pulled freely by hand.
- Fully tighten the two nuts to secure the chain brake cover and guide bar.

2.3 Fuel and Oil Preparation
The HECHT-45 uses a 2-stroke engine and requires a specific fuel mixture and chain lubricant.
- Fuel Mixture: Mix unleaded gasoline with high-quality 2-stroke engine oil at the ratio specified in the engine manual (typically 25:1 or 50:1, refer to your specific engine instructions). Use a clean fuel container.
- Chain Oil: Fill the chain oil reservoir with biodegradable chain lubricant. This lubricates the chain and guide bar during operation. Do not use waste oil.
3. Operating Instructions
3.1 Pre-Operation Checks
- Check fuel and chain oil levels.
- Verify chain tension is correct.
- Ensure the chain brake is functioning correctly.
- Inspect the air filter for cleanliness.
3.2 Starting the Engine
Follow these steps for starting the HECHT-45 engine:
- Place the chainsaw on a firm, flat surface.
- Engage the chain brake by pushing the hand guard forward.
- Push the primer bulb several times until fuel is visible.
- Set the choke lever to the 'closed' position (for cold start).
- Pull the starter cord firmly and steadily until the engine fires briefly.
- Once the engine fires, move the choke lever to the 'open' position.
- Pull the starter cord again until the engine starts and runs.
- Allow the engine to warm up for a few moments before disengaging the chain brake and beginning operation.

3.3 Safety Features
- Chain Brake: The chain brake/hand guard stops the chain within milliseconds during kickback, providing crucial protection. Always ensure it is functional.
- Anti-Vibration System: The anti-vibration system absorbs impacts and reduces user fatigue during extended operation.

3.4 Cutting Techniques
Always maintain a stable stance and firm grip. Plan your cuts to avoid kickback. Do not cut above shoulder height. Be aware of falling branches and logs.
4. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and extends the lifespan of your HECHT-45 chainsaw.
4.1 Daily/Regular Maintenance
- Cleaning: Clean the chainsaw after each use, removing sawdust, debris, and oil residue.
- Chain Sharpening: Sharpen the saw chain regularly to maintain cutting efficiency and safety. Refer to specific chain sharpening guidelines.
- Chain Lubrication: Ensure the automatic chain oiler is functioning and the oil reservoir is filled.
4.2 Periodic Maintenance
- Air Filter: Clean or replace the air filter as needed to ensure proper engine performance.
- Spark Plug: Inspect and clean the spark plug. Replace if worn or fouled.
- Fuel Filter: Check and clean or replace the fuel filter periodically.
4.3 Storage
For long-term storage, drain the fuel tank and run the engine until it stops to clear the carburetor. Clean the chainsaw thoroughly and store it in a dry, secure location away from children.
5. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your HECHT-45 chainsaw.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Engine won't start | No fuel, incorrect choke setting, fouled spark plug, clogged fuel filter. | Check fuel level, adjust choke, clean/replace spark plug, clean/replace fuel filter. |
| Chainsaw loses power | Dull chain, clogged air filter, incorrect fuel mixture. | Sharpen chain, clean air filter, verify fuel mixture ratio. |
| Chain not moving | Chain brake engaged, incorrect chain tension, clutch issue. | Disengage chain brake, adjust chain tension, consult service if clutch is suspected. |
