Setup: Setting Your Combination
The ABUS 145/40 C padlock comes with a factory preset combination, usually 0-0-0 or a similar default. Follow these steps to set your personal combination:
- Ensure the padlock is open. If it is currently locked, dial the current combination (factory preset or your last set combination) to open the shackle.
- Rotate the shackle 90 degrees (or 180 degrees, depending on the model) from its locked position.
- Press the shackle down firmly into the lock body. While holding it down, set your desired new combination by turning the dials. Choose a memorable but secure combination.
- Once your new combination is set, release the shackle and return it to its original locked position.
- Scramble the dials to lock the padlock. Test your new combination to ensure it opens the lock correctly before securing any valuables.

Operating the Padlock
To open the ABUS 145/40 C padlock:
- Align the dials to your set combination. Ensure each number is precisely aligned with the indicator line on the front of the lock body.
- Pull up on the shackle to release it from the lock body.
To lock the ABUS 145/40 C padlock:
- With the shackle in the open position, insert it back into the lock body.
- Scramble the dials to a random set of numbers. This secures the padlock and prevents unauthorized access.

- Dials are difficult to turn:

- Cannot reset combination:
- Verify that the shackle is fully rotated and pressed down firmly into the lock body before attempting to set new numbers.
