1. Introduction
This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the assembly, operation, and maintenance of your Konus Konuspace-6 60/800 Refractor Telescope. This optical instrument is designed for beginners to facilitate easy astronomical observation.
Safety Information
Warning: Not suitable for children under 14 years of age.
Never look directly at the sun through the telescope or its finder scope, even for an instant, as this can cause permanent eye damage.
2. Package Contents
Verify that all components are present in the package:
- Konuspace-6 Refractor Telescope Optical Tube
- Aluminum Tripod
- Finder Scope
- Eyepieces (various magnifications, typically including a Barlow lens)
- Diagonal Mirror
- "Sky Explorer" Software CD-ROM

3. Setup
Follow these steps to assemble your telescope:
3.1. Assemble the Tripod
- Unfold the aluminum tripod legs.
- Extend the legs to the desired height and secure them using the locking clamps.
- Ensure the tripod is stable on a flat surface.

3.2. Mount the Optical Tube
- Attach the telescope optical tube to the altazimuth mount on top of the tripod. Secure it firmly with the provided screws or clamps.
- Ensure the tube is balanced and can move freely in both horizontal and vertical axes.

3.3. Attach the Finder Scope
- Locate the finder scope and its bracket.
- Slide the finder scope into its mounting bracket on the main telescope tube and tighten the retaining screws.
3.4. Insert the Eyepiece
- Insert the diagonal mirror into the focuser tube. Secure it with the thumbscrew.
- Choose an eyepiece (start with the lowest magnification, i.e., the one with the largest focal length number) and insert it into the diagonal mirror. Secure it with the thumbscrew.

4. Operating the Telescope
4.1. Aligning the Finder Scope
Before observing celestial objects, the finder scope must be aligned with the main telescope. This is best done during daylight hours:
- Point the main telescope at a distant, stationary object (e.g., a treetop or a street light).
- Center the object in the main telescope's eyepiece.
- Look through the finder scope and adjust its alignment screws until the same object is centered in the finder scope's crosshairs.
4.2. Focusing
To achieve a clear image, rotate the focus knob located on the focuser tube until the object appears sharp. Fine adjustments may be needed as objects move or as your eyes adjust.

4.3. Changing Magnification (Eyepieces and Barlow Lens)
The magnification of your telescope is determined by the focal length of the telescope divided by the focal length of the eyepiece. A Barlow lens increases the magnification of any eyepiece it is used with.
- To change eyepieces, loosen the thumbscrew on the diagonal mirror, carefully remove the current eyepiece, and insert the new one. Tighten the thumbscrew.
- To use the Barlow lens, insert it into the diagonal mirror first, then insert an eyepiece into the Barlow lens.
5. Maintenance
Proper care will ensure the longevity and performance of your telescope:
- Cleaning Lenses: Use a soft, lint-free cloth specifically designed for optical lenses. Gently wipe the lens surfaces. For stubborn spots, use a small amount of optical cleaning fluid. Avoid touching the lens surfaces with your fingers.
- Storage: When not in use, store the telescope in a dry, dust-free environment. Keep lens caps on to protect the optics.
- Handling: Always handle the telescope carefully. Avoid sudden impacts or dropping the instrument.
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Image is blurry | Out of focus; atmospheric conditions; dirty lens. | Adjust the focus knob. Wait for better viewing conditions. Clean the objective lens and eyepiece. |
| Cannot find objects | Finder scope not aligned; incorrect aiming. | Align the finder scope (refer to Section 4.1). Practice aiming at bright objects first. |
| Image is dim or dark | Too high magnification; light pollution. | Use a lower magnification eyepiece. Observe from a darker location. |
