4.1 Pre-Operation Checklist

  • Ensure all fasteners are tight and the tool is fully assembled.
  • Check the cutting blade/line head for damage or wear. Replace if necessary.
  • Inspect the power cord for any cuts, fraying, or damage.
  • Clear the work area of any debris, rocks, or objects that could be thrown by the cutting head.
  • Wear all required PPE.

4.2 Starting and Stopping

  1. Connect the power cable to a suitable outdoor-rated extension cord, then to a grounded power outlet.
  2. Hold the brush cutter/trimmer firmly with both hands, maintaining a balanced stance.
  3. To start, press the safety lock-off button (if present) and then squeeze the trigger switch.
  4. To stop, release the trigger switch.

4.3 Cutting Techniques

  • For Grass Trimming (with line head): Use a sweeping motion, moving the cutting head from side to side. Keep the head slightly above the ground. The automatic line advance mechanism will feed new line as needed.
  • For Brush Cutting (with 3-tooth blade): Approach the brush slowly and cut in small sections. Use a controlled, deliberate motion. Avoid hitting hard objects like rocks or metal.
  • Maintain a safe distance from the cutting head and ensure the protective guard is always in place.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your Hecht 1238. Always disconnect the tool from the power supply before performing any maintenance.

  • Cleaning: After each use, clean the tool thoroughly. Remove grass, dirt, and debris from the cutting head, guard, and motor housing. Use a damp cloth; do not use solvents.
  • Blade Inspection: Regularly inspect the 3-tooth blade for sharpness, cracks, or damage. Sharpen or replace the blade as needed. A dull or damaged blade can cause excessive vibration and reduce cutting efficiency.
  • Line Head Maintenance: If using the line head, check the trimmer line for wear and replace the spool when empty. Refer to the specific instructions for your line head model for spool replacement.
  • Power Cord: Inspect the power cord for any signs of damage. If damaged, have it repaired by a qualified service technician.
  • Storage: Store the tool in a dry, secure place, out of reach of children. Ensure the cutting head is protected to prevent accidental injury.
