Key Features:

  • Contact Type: 2 Normally Open (NO) contacts
  • Rated Current (I max): 25 A
  • Operating Voltage (Ue): 230-250 V AC
  • Control Voltage: 230 V AC
  • Number of Modules: 1 (for DIN rail mounting)
  • Operating Mode: ON-OFF
  • Terminal Type: Screw terminals
  • Actuator Type: Piston
  • Contact Material: Alloy steel

4. Setup and Installation

Before proceeding, ensure power is disconnected as per Section 2, "Safety Information."

4.1 Mounting

  1. Locate an appropriate position on a standard DIN rail within an electrical enclosure.
  2. Clip the contactor onto the DIN rail. Ensure it is securely fastened.

4.2 Wiring

The contactor features screw terminals for secure electrical connections. Refer to the markings on the device for correct wiring.

  • Coil Terminals (Control Circuit): Connect the control voltage (230V AC) to terminals A1 and A2. A1 is typically for the phase/live wire, and A2 for the neutral.
  • Main Contacts (Power Circuit):
    • Connect the incoming power supply to terminals 1 and 3.
    • Connect the load to terminals 2 and 4.
  • Ensure all connections are tight and secure to prevent loose contacts and overheating.
  • Double-check all wiring against the electrical diagram of your installation before restoring power.

5. Operating Instructions

Once installed and wired correctly, the contactor operates by applying voltage to its control coil (A1-A2).

  • Automatic Operation: When the control voltage (230V AC) is applied to terminals A1 and A2, the contactor coil energizes, closing the main contacts (1-2 and 3-4). This allows power to flow to the connected load. When the control voltage is removed, the coil de-energizes, and the contacts open, disconnecting the load.
  • Manual Override: The contactor is equipped with a manual override lever on the front panel.
    • Move the lever to the 'AUTO' position for normal automatic operation via the control circuit.
    • Move the lever to the 'O' (Off) position to manually open the contacts, regardless of the control circuit status. This can be used for maintenance or to ensure the load remains off.
    • Some models may also feature a manual 'ON' position for continuous closure of contacts, independent of the control circuit. Refer to the specific markings on your device.

6. Maintenance

The Legrand 412544 CX3 Contactor is designed for reliable, long-term operation with minimal maintenance. However, periodic checks are recommended.

  • Visual Inspection: Periodically inspect the contactor for any signs of physical damage, discoloration, or loose connections.
  • Terminal Tightness: Ensure all screw terminals remain tight. Loose connections can lead to overheating and potential failure.
  • Cleaning: If necessary, gently clean the exterior of the contactor with a dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use liquids or abrasive cleaners.
  • Functionality Check: With power disconnected from the load circuit, test the manual override function to ensure smooth operation.

Important: Always disconnect power before performing any maintenance.

7. Troubleshooting

If the contactor is not functioning as expected, consider the following common issues and solutions:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Contactor does not energize (contacts do not close)
  • No control voltage to A1-A2.
  • Incorrect wiring of A1-A2.
  • Manual override in 'O' (Off) position.
  • Damaged coil.
  • Check control circuit power supply.
  • Verify A1-A2 wiring.
  • Set manual override to 'AUTO'.
  • Replace contactor if coil is damaged.
Contactor energizes but load does not receive power
  • No power to main contacts (1-3).
  • Incorrect wiring of main contacts (1-2, 3-4).
  • Damaged main contacts.
  • Check power supply to terminals 1 and 3.
  • Verify wiring of load circuit.
  • Replace contactor if contacts are damaged.
Contactor makes humming noise
  • Loose connections.
  • Contactor not fully closing.
  • Tighten all screw terminals.
  • Inspect for foreign objects preventing full closure.

If problems persist after attempting these solutions, contact a qualified electrician or Legrand customer support.
