1. Introduction

The Pentax Q10 is a super-compact and ultra-lightweight mirrorless digital camera designed to offer digital-SLR-quality photography in a highly portable form factor. Building upon its predecessor, the Q10 features a newly adopted CMOS image sensor and an upgraded algorithm, resulting in improved image quality and faster autofocus (AF) operation. This manual provides essential information for setting up, operating, and maintaining your Pentax Q10 camera.

4. Setup

4.1. Charging and Installing the Battery

  1. Insert the included Lithium-Ion battery into the battery charger.
  2. Connect the charger to a power outlet. The charging indicator will light up.
  3. Once charging is complete (indicator light changes or turns off), remove the battery.
  4. Open the battery cover on the bottom of the camera.
  5. Insert the charged battery into the camera with the correct orientation, then close the cover securely.

4.2. Inserting a Memory Card

The Pentax Q10 uses SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards (sold separately).

  1. Open the memory card slot cover, usually located on the side or bottom of the camera.
  2. Insert the memory card with the label facing the front of the camera until it clicks into place.
  3. Close the memory card slot cover.

4.3. Attaching the Lens

  1. Remove the body mount cap from the camera and the rear lens cap from the lens.
  2. Align the red dot on the lens with the red dot on the camera's lens mount.
  3. Insert the lens into the camera mount and turn it clockwise until it clicks into place.
  4. Remove the front lens cap.

4.4. Initial Settings

Upon first power-on, you may be prompted to set the date, time, and language. Follow the on-screen instructions.

5. Operating the Camera

5.1. Basic Photography

  1. Turn the camera on using the power switch.
  2. Rotate the mode dial to select your desired shooting mode (e.g., P for Program Auto, AUTO for fully automatic).
  3. Frame your shot using the LCD monitor.
  4. Press the shutter button halfway down to activate autofocus. The camera will focus on your subject.
  5. Press the shutter button fully down to take the picture.

5.2. Video Recording

The Pentax Q10 supports Full 1080p HD video recording at 30 frames per second with H.264 compression.

  1. Set the mode dial to the movie recording mode (usually indicated by a video camera icon).
  2. Press the shutter button to start recording.
  3. Press the shutter button again to stop recording.

5.3. Image Stabilization

The camera features a sensor-shift shake reduction system to help produce stabilized, blur-free images, especially in low-light conditions. This system operates automatically.

5.4. Using the Built-in Flash

The Q10 includes a built-in pop-up flash with extra high extension, covering up to 23 feet at ISO 200.

5.5. Continuous Shooting

For capturing fast-action situations, the camera can capture up to 5 frames per second in continuous shooting mode. This setting can typically be found in the drive mode menu.

5.6. Playback

To view your captured photos and videos:

  1. Press the Playback button.
  2. Use the four-way controller to navigate through images.
  3. Press the OK button or a dedicated zoom button to zoom in on an image.
