4. System Setup and Installation
Before beginning installation, ensure your workspace is clean and static-free. It is recommended to wear an anti-static wrist strap.
4.1. CPU Installation
- Locate the LGA 1155 CPU socket on the motherboard.
- Gently push down the load lever and pull it to the side to open the CPU socket cover.
- Carefully align the CPU with the socket, matching the golden triangle on the CPU with the triangle mark on the socket. Ensure the notches on the CPU align with the socket.
- Lower the CPU straight down into the socket without applying force.
- Close the load plate and push the load lever back into its locked position.
- Install the CPU cooler according to its manufacturer's instructions.
4.2. Memory (RAM) Installation
- Open the clips at both ends of the DDR3 DIMM slots.
- Align the notch on the DDR3 memory module with the key in the DIMM slot.
- Insert the memory module firmly into the slot until the clips snap into place. Ensure both clips are fully closed.
- For dual-channel operation, install memory modules in both available slots.
4.3. Expansion Card Installation
- Identify the appropriate PCI-Express slot for your expansion card (e.g., graphics card in the PCI-E 3.0 x16 slot).
- Remove the corresponding metal bracket cover from your PC case.
- Align the expansion card with the slot and press it down firmly until it is securely seated.
- Secure the card with a screw to the PC case.
4.4. Storage Device Connection (SATA)
- Connect one end of a SATA data cable to a SATA2 port on the motherboard.
- Connect the other end of the SATA data cable to your SATA hard drive or SSD.
- Connect a SATA power cable from your power supply unit (PSU) to the storage device.
4.5. Power Supply Connection
- Connect the 24-pin ATX power connector from your PSU to the main power connector on the motherboard.
- Connect the 4-pin ATX 12V power connector from your PSU to the CPU power connector on the motherboard.
4.6. Front Panel and Peripheral Connections
Connect your case's front panel connectors (power switch, reset switch, HDD LED, power LED, front USB, front audio) to the corresponding headers on the motherboard. Refer to the motherboard's detailed manual for exact pin configurations. Connect external peripherals such as keyboard, mouse, and monitor to the rear I/O panel.
5. Initial Operation and BIOS Setup
5.1. First Boot
After completing all hardware installations, connect your monitor, keyboard, and mouse. Power on your system. The system should display the ASRock splash screen.
5.2. BIOS/UEFI Setup Utility
To enter the BIOS/UEFI Setup Utility, press the Del or F2 key during the boot process. Here you can configure system settings such as boot order, date/time, and advanced hardware parameters.
5.3. Operating System Installation
Insert your operating system installation media (USB drive or DVD) and configure the boot order in the BIOS/UEFI to boot from the installation media. Follow the on-screen instructions to install your preferred operating system. Supported operating systems include various versions of Microsoft Windows.
6. Maintenance
6.1. Driver Installation
After installing the operating system, install the necessary drivers from the included Support CD or download the latest versions from the ASRock official website. This includes chipset drivers, audio drivers, LAN drivers, and any other peripheral drivers.
6.2. BIOS/UEFI Updates
Periodically check the ASRock website for updated BIOS/UEFI versions. Updates can improve system stability, compatibility, and performance. Follow the instructions provided by ASRock carefully when performing a BIOS/UEFI update.
6.3. Cleaning
Regularly clean your computer's interior to prevent dust buildup, which can lead to overheating and component failure. Use compressed air to remove dust from fans, heatsinks, and other components. Ensure the system is powered off and unplugged before cleaning.
7. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter. For more detailed troubleshooting, refer to the comprehensive manual on the Support CD or ASRock's website.
- No Power: Ensure all power cables (24-pin ATX, 4-pin ATX 12V) are securely connected to the motherboard and the power supply is switched on. Check the power button connection to the front panel header.
- No Display: Verify that the monitor is connected to the correct video output (onboard or discrete graphics card). Reseat the graphics card and memory modules. Check for bent CPU socket pins if the issue persists after initial installation.
- System Instability/Crashes: This can be caused by incompatible or faulty memory, an improperly seated CPU, or overheating. Check memory compatibility, reseat components, and ensure adequate cooling. Update drivers and BIOS.
- Operating System Not Booting: Check the boot order in BIOS/UEFI. Ensure the SATA data and power cables are correctly connected to the storage drive. Reinstall the operating system if necessary.
- USB Ports Remain Powered After Shutdown: This is a common behavior on some motherboards. If this is undesirable, check the BIOS/UEFI settings for options related to "Deep Sleep" or "ErP Ready" which might control power to USB ports in shutdown states.
