Follow these steps to set up your Uniden BC355N scanner for first use.

1. Connect the Antenna

Attach the provided telescopic BNC antenna to the ANT connector on the rear of the scanner. Ensure it is securely fastened for optimal reception.

Operating the Scanner

The Uniden BC355N is designed for user-friendly operation. Familiarize yourself with the front panel controls:

1. Power On/Off and Volume

Turn the VOLUME knob clockwise to power on the scanner and adjust the listening volume. Turn counter-clockwise to decrease volume and power off.

2. Squelch Control

Adjust the SQ (Squelch) knob to eliminate background noise. Turn it clockwise until the noise disappears. If set too high, weak signals may not be heard.

3. Scanning Pre-programmed Bands

The scanner comes with several pre-programmed service bands. Press the corresponding buttons to activate scanning for these bands:

4. Close Call RF Capture

Press the CLOSE CALL button (target icon) to activate Close Call RF Capture Technology. The scanner will instantly tune to strong signals from nearby transmitters, allowing you to quickly identify active local frequencies.

5. Storing Private Frequencies

You can manually store up to 300 frequencies in the 'Private' bank:

  1. Press HOLD to stop scanning.
  2. Use the UP or DOWN arrow keys to manually tune to your desired frequency.
  3. Press PROG (Program).
  4. Press PRIVATE.
  5. Press PROG again to confirm and store the frequency.
  6. Press PRIVATE to begin scanning your stored frequencies.

The scanner features a backlit display for improved visibility in various lighting conditions.
