Setup
Before first use, ensure all packaging materials are removed and the beaters are clean.
- Attaching Beaters: Insert the Turbo Beater Accessories into the openings on the bottom of the mixer. Push and twist slightly until they click securely into place. Ensure both beaters are fully inserted.
- Cord Management: The power cord can be locked into either the left or right side of the mixer. This feature allows you to position the cord conveniently for your mixing needs, preventing interference with your work area.

Operating Instructions
The KitchenAid KHM512 Hand Mixer offers 5 distinct speeds for versatile mixing.
- Power On: Plug the mixer into a suitable electrical outlet.
- Selecting Speed: Use the speed control switch located on the top of the mixer to select your desired speed.
- Speed 1: Ideal for slowly stirring in chunky ingredients like nuts or chocolate chips.
- Speeds 2-4: Suitable for general mixing, combining batters, and mashing potatoes.
- Speed 5: Perfect for whipping egg whites, heavy cream, or other ingredients requiring high speed.
- Mixing: Hold the mixer with the soft grip handle and immerse the beaters into your ingredients before turning it on to prevent splattering. Move the mixer around the bowl to ensure even mixing.
- Power Off: Once mixing is complete, return the speed control switch to the '0' (off) position and unplug the mixer.

Cleaning and Maintenance
Proper cleaning and maintenance will extend the life of your hand mixer.
- Detaching Beaters: With the mixer unplugged, press the eject button to release the Turbo Beater Accessories.
- Cleaning Beaters: The Turbo Beater Accessories are dishwasher safe for easy cleaning. They can also be hand-washed with warm, soapy water.
- Cleaning Motor Unit: Wipe the motor unit with a damp cloth. Do not immerse the motor unit in water or any other liquid. The round cord is also easy to wipe clean.
- Storage: Store the mixer and its accessories in a dry place.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter any issues with your KitchenAid KHM512 Hand Mixer, please refer to the following common solutions:
- Mixer does not turn on: Ensure the mixer is securely plugged into a working electrical outlet. Check if the speed control is set to a speed other than '0'.
- Beaters are difficult to insert/eject: Ensure the mixer is unplugged. Check for any obstructions in the openings. Apply gentle pressure when inserting until a click is heard. For ejection, press the button firmly.
- Motor sounds strained: This may occur with very thick mixtures. Reduce the load by mixing smaller batches or adding liquid if appropriate for the recipe. Do not force the mixer.
