Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your ski rack.
- Cleaning: After each use, especially in snowy or salty conditions, clean the rack with mild soap and water. Rinse thoroughly and dry to prevent corrosion.
- Inspect Rubber Grips: Periodically check the soft EPDM rubber grips for any signs of wear, tears, or damage. Replace if necessary to ensure proper grip on your equipment.
- Check Fasteners: Before each trip, verify that all mounting bolts and fasteners are tight. Retighten if any looseness is detected.
- Lubrication: Apply a small amount of silicone-based lubricant to the lock mechanism and hinges periodically to ensure smooth operation, especially in cold weather.
- Storage: When not in use for extended periods, remove the ski rack from your vehicle and store it in a dry, protected area to prolong its lifespan.
Troubleshooting
Here are solutions to common issues you might encounter:
- Rack feels loose after installation:
Ensure all mounting bolts are tightened evenly and securely. Check that the ski rack is correctly seated on the vehicle's crossbars. - Difficulty opening or closing the rack:
Check for any obstructions in the hinge mechanism. Apply a small amount of lubricant to the hinges and lock mechanism. Ensure the key is fully inserted and turned correctly. - Key is stuck or difficult to turn:
Do not force the key. Apply a small amount of graphite lubricant or a specialized lock lubricant into the keyhole. Ensure the lock mechanism is clean and free of debris. - Skis/snowboards are not held securely:
Verify that the equipment is properly positioned within the rubber grips. Ensure the rack is fully closed and locked. Check the condition of the EPDM rubber grips for wear.
