4. Setup and Installation

The DHCS13 drum heater is designed for easy installation on 30-gallon metal drums.

  1. Prepare the Drum: Ensure the metal drum is clean and free from any debris or flammable residues on its exterior surface where the heater will be applied.
  2. Position the Heater: Wrap the DHCS13 drum heater around the circumference of the 30-gallon metal drum. Position it at the desired height, typically around the lower or middle section of the drum, depending on the material to be heated.
  3. Secure the Heater: The heater features a spring closure mechanism. Expand the spring closure as needed (up to 3 inches / 76mm) to securely fasten the heater around the drum. Ensure the heater fits snugly against the drum surface for optimal heat transfer.
  4. Connect Power: Plug the 6ft (1.8m) long power cord with its standard 3-prong plug (NEMA 5-15) into a properly grounded 120VAC electrical outlet. Ensure the outlet is capable of supplying 1000 watts.
  5. Initial Check: Before setting the temperature, ensure the heater is firmly attached and the power cord is not pinched or in contact with any hot surfaces.

5. Operating Instructions

The DHCS13 drum heater is equipped with an adjustable thermostat for precise temperature control.

  1. Adjust Thermostat: Locate the adjustable thermostat dial on the heater. The thermostat has a temperature range of 50°F to 425°F (10°C to 218°C).
  2. Set Desired Temperature: Rotate the dial to set the desired temperature for the contents of the drum. Start with a lower setting and gradually increase if higher temperatures are required.
  3. Monitor Heating: The heater will begin to warm the drum. The thermostat will cycle the heating element on and off to maintain the set temperature.
  4. Over-temperature Protection: The maximum exposure temperature on the heating surface is 450°F (232°C). The thermostat will prevent the surface from exceeding this temperature.
  5. Power Off: To turn off the heater, unplug it from the power outlet.

Note: The actual temperature of the drum contents may vary based on ambient temperature, drum material, and the specific properties of the material being heated. It is recommended to monitor the internal temperature of the drum contents, especially for temperature-sensitive materials.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and safe operation of your BriskHeat DHCS13 drum heater.
