Setup
1. Unpacking and Initial Inspection
Carefully remove all items from the packaging. Verify that all components listed in the "What's in the Box" section are present and undamaged. If any items are missing or damaged, contact your retailer.
2. Charging the Battery
The camera uses an EN-EL14 Rechargeable Li-ion Battery. Before first use, fully charge the battery using the supplied MH-24 Quick Charger.
- Insert the battery into the MH-24 Quick Charger.
- Plug the charger into a power outlet. The charging lamp will light up.
- Charging is complete when the charging lamp turns off. Remove the battery from the charger.
3. Inserting the Battery and Memory Card
The camera supports SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards (not included). Ensure the camera is turned off before inserting or removing the battery or memory card.
- Open the battery/memory card cover on the bottom of the camera.
- Insert the charged EN-EL14 battery into the battery compartment with the correct orientation.
- Insert an SD memory card into the memory card slot until it clicks into place.
- Close the battery/memory card cover securely.

Operating the Camera
1. Powering On/Off
Press the ON/OFF button located on the top of the camera to turn it on or off. The lens will extend when powered on.
2. Basic Shooting Modes (PSAM)
The mode dial on the top of the camera allows you to select various shooting modes:
- P (Program Auto): The camera automatically sets shutter speed and aperture for optimal exposure.
- S (Shutter-Priority Auto): You set the shutter speed, and the camera selects the optimal aperture.
- A (Aperture-Priority Auto): You set the aperture, and the camera selects the optimal shutter speed.
- M (Manual): You control both shutter speed and aperture.
- Scene Modes: Select from 19 optimized scene modes for specific shooting situations (e.g., Portrait, Landscape, Night Landscape).
- Effects: Apply creative in-camera effects to your photos and videos.
Rotate the mode dial to select your desired shooting mode. Use the command dials to adjust settings within each mode.
3. Focusing and Shooting
To focus, gently press the shutter-release button halfway down. The camera will acquire focus, indicated by a green focus indicator. To take a picture, press the shutter-release button all the way down.

Advanced Functions
1. Vari-Angle LCD Monitor
The 3.0-inch Vari-Angle LCD monitor can be rotated and tilted to provide flexible viewing angles. This is useful for shooting from high or low perspectives, or for self-portraits. To protect the screen during transport, fold it back into the camera body with the screen facing inwards.

2. RAW (NRW) Shooting
For maximum image quality and post-processing flexibility, the COOLPIX P7700 supports shooting in Nikon's proprietary RAW (NRW) format. This captures all original image data directly from the sensor. RAW files require processing with compatible software (e.g., NikonView NX 2) before they can be viewed or printed as standard images.
3. External Accessories
The camera features a full-size accessory shoe compatible with Nikon D-SLR accessories, including Speedlights (external flashes), the GP-1 GPS module for geotagging, and the ME-1 stereo microphone for enhanced audio recording.
Video Recording
The COOLPIX P7700 can record Full HD (1080p) videos with stereo sound. To start recording, press the dedicated movie-record button. You can use the optical zoom during recording. For improved audio quality, an optional ME-1 stereo microphone can be connected via the microphone jack.
