2. Safety Instructions

5. Setup

5.1 Unpacking and Placement

1. Carefully remove the machine from its packaging.
2. Place the machine on a stable, flat surface. Ensure there is adequate space around the machine for fabric handling.
3. Attach the auxiliary table by sliding it into position on the left side of the machine.

5.2 Power Connection

1. Ensure the power switch is in the OFF position.
2. Connect the power cord to the machine's power input and then to a suitable 100V 50/60Hz electrical outlet.
3. Connect the foot controller to its designated port on the machine.

5.3 Bobbin Winding

The 780DX features an independent bobbin winding system, allowing you to wind bobbins even while the machine is sewing.

1. Place a spool of thread on the spool pin.
2. Guide the thread through the bobbin winding tension disc.
3. Place an empty bobbin onto the bobbin winder spindle.
4. Wrap the thread around the bobbin a few times, then push the bobbin winder spindle to the right.
5. Press the bobbin winding start button (or foot controller, depending on model variation) to begin winding. The bobbin will stop automatically when full.
6. Cut the thread and remove the wound bobbin.

5.4 Threading the Machine

1. Raise the presser foot and needle to their highest positions.
2. Place the thread spool on the spool pin and secure it with a thread spool cap.
3. Follow the numbered threading path indicated on the machine, guiding the thread through all tension discs and thread guides.
4. Thread the needle from front to back.
5. Insert the wound bobbin into the bobbin case and then into the shuttle hook area, ensuring the thread is correctly routed through the tension spring.
6. Turn the handwheel to lower and raise the needle, catching the bobbin thread and pulling it up through the needle plate opening.

5.5 Needle Installation

1. Ensure the machine is turned OFF.
2. Loosen the needle clamp screw.
3. Insert a new DB needle (flat side facing away from you) as far up as it will go into the needle clamp.
4. Tighten the needle clamp screw securely.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Basic Straight Stitch Sewing

1. Turn on the machine.
2. Place the fabric under the presser foot, aligning the edge with the desired seam allowance guide on the needle plate.
3. Lower the presser foot.
4. Gently press the foot controller to start sewing. The machine will sew a straight stitch.
5. Guide the fabric smoothly without pulling or pushing.
6. To stop, release the foot controller.

6.2 Adjusting Stitch Length

The stitch length dial is located on the front of the machine. Rotate the dial to select the desired stitch length. Higher numbers indicate longer stitches.

6.3 Automatic Thread Cutting

After completing a seam, press the automatic thread cutting button (usually located on the machine head). The machine will automatically cut both the upper and bobbin threads, saving time and effort.

6.4 Knee Lift Operation

The knee lift lever allows you to raise and lower the presser foot using your knee, keeping your hands free to guide the fabric. Install the knee lift lever into its designated slot on the front of the machine. Push the lever with your knee to raise the presser foot.

6.5 Speed Adjustment

The sewing speed can be adjusted using the speed control slider or dial, typically located on the front panel. Move the control to increase or decrease the maximum sewing speed, allowing for precise control over various sewing tasks.

1. Remove the needle and presser foot.
2. Open the bobbin case cover and remove the bobbin case.
