Introduction
The PetSafe Wireless Fence System provides a safe and effective containment solution for your pet within a defined circular boundary. This system utilizes a radio signal transmitted from a central unit and a receiver collar worn by your pet. When your pet approaches the boundary, the collar emits a warning tone, followed by a static correction if the pet continues to move towards the boundary. This manual provides comprehensive instructions for setting up, operating, and maintaining your PetSafe Wireless Fence System.
System Components
Your PetSafe Wireless Fence System includes the following components:
- Wireless Transmitter Unit: The central unit that creates the circular boundary.
- Receiver Collar: Worn by your pet, it receives the signal from the transmitter and delivers corrections.
- RFA-67D Batteries: Two batteries for the receiver collar.
- Training Flags: Used to visually mark the boundary during the training phase (50 included).
- Test Light Tool: For checking the receiver collar's functionality.
- Contact Point Wrench: For attaching and removing the contact points on the receiver collar.
- Power Adapter: For the wireless transmitter unit.

Setup Guide
1. Choose a Transmitter Location
Place the Wireless Transmitter Unit indoors in a central location within your desired containment area. Ensure it is plugged into a standard 110V electrical outlet. Avoid placing the transmitter near large metal objects or appliances, as this can interfere with the signal.
2. Adjust Boundary Size
The system creates a circular boundary up to 1/2 acre (approximately 180 feet in diameter). Adjust the boundary size using the 'Boundary Control' dial on the transmitter. Test the boundary with the receiver collar to ensure it covers the desired area.
3. Prepare the Receiver Collar
Insert the RFA-67D batteries into the receiver collar. Attach the appropriate contact points (short or long) based on your pet's fur length using the contact point wrench. Ensure the contact points make proper contact with your pet's skin.
4. Mark the Boundary
Use the provided training flags to visually mark the boundary where the receiver collar first emits the warning tone. Place flags approximately 10-15 feet apart around the perimeter of the containment area. This visual cue is crucial for your pet's training.
Operating the System
1. Pet Training
Effective training is essential for your pet to understand the system. Begin by introducing your pet to the training flags and the warning tone. Walk your pet on a leash towards the boundary. When the collar beeps, immediately guide your pet away from the boundary and praise them. Repeat this process until your pet consistently retreats from the warning tone.
2. Correction Levels
The receiver collar offers five adjustable static correction levels, plus a tone-only mode. Start with the lowest correction level and gradually increase it if your pet does not respond to the warning tone. The tone-only mode is ideal for initial training.
3. Static-Free Re-entry
The PetSafe Wireless Fence System features static-free re-entry, meaning your pet will not receive a static correction when re-entering the containment area from outside the boundary. This encourages them to return home without fear.
4. Portability
The wireless nature of the system allows for portability. You can take the transmitter and collar with you when traveling or camping, providing a familiar and safe containment area for your pet wherever you go.
Maintenance
Battery Replacement
The receiver collar uses RFA-67D batteries. Battery life typically lasts up to two months, depending on usage. A low battery indicator light on the collar will alert you when replacement is needed. To replace, open the battery compartment, remove the old batteries, and insert new ones, ensuring correct polarity.
Cleaning the Collar
Regularly clean the receiver collar and contact points with a damp cloth to remove dirt and debris. Ensure the contact points are free of buildup to maintain effective correction delivery.
Transmitter Care
Keep the transmitter unit clean and free from dust. Do not expose it to moisture or extreme temperatures.
Troubleshooting
No Correction/Warning Tone
- Check battery: Ensure the receiver collar batteries are fresh and correctly installed. Look for the low battery indicator.
- Collar fit: Verify the collar is snug and the contact points are touching your pet's skin.
- Test tool: Use the test light tool to confirm the collar is functioning.
- Boundary size: Increase the boundary range on the transmitter.
Inconsistent Boundary
- Transmitter location: Relocate the transmitter to a more central area, away from large metal objects or dense foliage.
- Interference: Check for other electronic devices that might be causing interference.
- Terrain: Uneven terrain or significant elevation changes can affect the signal. Adjust the boundary or consider additional transmitters for larger or irregular areas.
Pet Not Responding to Correction
- Training: Revisit the training steps. Consistent and positive reinforcement is key.
- Correction level: Increase the correction level gradually.
- Contact points: Ensure proper contact point length for your pet's fur.
