3. Setup and Installation
The EXR LED EL M6 is designed for versatile mounting options: top, back, or end. Ensure power is disconnected before proceeding.
3.1 Mounting Options
- Wall Mount: Attach directly to a wall junction box.
- Ceiling Mount: Use the included canopy for top mounting to a ceiling junction box.
- End Mount: Attach to the side of a junction box using the provided hardware.

3.2 Wiring
- Ensure power is OFF at the circuit breaker.
- Open the fixture housing.
- Connect the AC input wires (black for line, white for neutral) to the building's electrical supply.
- Connect the battery wires to the circuit board. Ensure correct polarity.
- Close the fixture housing securely.

3.3 Directional Chevrons
The unit includes universal chevrons that can be easily removed or inserted to indicate the direction of exit. These are typically knocked out from the inside of the faceplate.

4. Operating Instructions
Once installed and powered, the exit sign will illuminate. The integrated battery will begin charging. Allow 24 hours for the battery to fully charge before conducting any tests.
4.1 Battery Test
A test button is located on the bottom of the unit. Press and hold this button to initiate a battery test. The sign should remain illuminated for the duration of the test (typically 30 seconds to 90 minutes, depending on local codes). Release the button to return to AC power operation.
4.2 AC Indicator Light
A small red LED indicator light on the bottom of the unit confirms that the sign is receiving AC power and the battery is charging. If this light is off, check the power supply.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and compliance with safety regulations.
5.1 Monthly Testing
Perform a 30-second functional test monthly by pressing the test button. The sign should remain illuminated.
5.2 Annual Testing
Conduct a full 90-minute discharge test annually. Disconnect AC power to the unit (e.g., by turning off the circuit breaker). The sign should remain illuminated for the full 90 minutes. Reconnect AC power after the test.
5.3 Cleaning
Clean the exterior of the unit with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
