  • Do not block any ventilation openings. Install in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Do not install near any heat sources such as radiators, heat registers, stoves, or other apparatus (including amplifiers) that produce heat.
  • Do not defeat the safety purpose of the polarized or grounding-type plug. A polarized plug has two blades with one wider than the other. A grounding-type plug has two blades and a third grounding prong. The wide blade or the third prong are provided for your safety. If the provided plug does not fit into your outlet, consult an electrician for replacement of the obsolete outlet.
  • Protect the power cord from being walked on or pinched, particularly at plugs, convenience receptacles, and the point where they exit from the apparatus.
  • Only use attachments/accessories specified by the manufacturer.
  • Use only with the cart, stand, tripod, bracket, or table specified by the manufacturer, or sold with the apparatus. When a cart is used, use caution when moving the cart/apparatus combination to avoid injury from tip-over.
  • Unplug this apparatus during lightning storms or when unused for long periods of time.

3. Setup and Connection

3.1 Unpacking

Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Inspect for any signs of damage during transit. Keep the original packaging for future transport or storage. The package includes two RF-82 MKII speakers and one SW-112 subwoofer.

3.2 Speaker Placement

Optimal placement of your speakers is crucial for sound quality.

  • RF-82 MKII Speakers: Position the floorstanding speakers equidistant from your primary listening position. Angle them slightly inward (toe-in) towards the listening area for improved imaging. Keep them away from corners to avoid excessive bass buildup.
  • SW-112 Subwoofer: Subwoofer placement is less critical than main speakers, but can significantly impact bass performance. Experiment with different locations in the room. Often, placing it in a corner can enhance bass output, but may also lead to "boomy" sound. A good starting point is along the front wall, near one of the main speakers.

3.3 Connections

Ensure all audio equipment is turned off before making any connections.

  1. Connecting RF-82 MKII Speakers: Use high-quality speaker wire to connect the RF-82 MKII speakers to your amplifier or receiver. Match the positive (+) terminal on the speaker to the positive (+) terminal on the amplifier, and the negative (-) terminal on the speaker to the negative (-) terminal on the amplifier. Ensure a secure connection.
  2. Connecting SW-112 Subwoofer:
    • LFE Connection (Recommended): If your receiver has an LFE (Low-Frequency Effects) or Subwoofer Pre-Out, connect a single RCA cable from this output on your receiver to the "LFE IN" input on the SW-112 subwoofer.
    • Stereo RCA Connection: If your receiver does not have an LFE output, connect RCA cables from the receiver's stereo pre-out (or line-out) to the "LINE IN" (Left and Right) inputs on the SW-112 subwoofer.
  3. Power Connection: Once all audio connections are made, connect the power cords for the SW-112 subwoofer and your amplifier/receiver to appropriate power outlets.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Initial Power On

After all connections are secure, power on your amplifier/receiver first, then the SW-112 subwoofer. The SW-112 has an auto-on feature that detects an audio signal.

4.2 Adjusting Subwoofer Settings (SW-112)

The SW-112 subwoofer features controls for fine-tuning its performance:

  • VOLUME: Adjusts the overall output level of the subwoofer. Start with a low setting and gradually increase until the bass blends seamlessly with the main speakers.
  • LOW PASS: This control sets the upper frequency limit for the subwoofer. If using an LFE connection, set this to its highest setting (or bypass if available) as your receiver will manage the crossover. For stereo RCA connections, adjust this to blend with your main speakers, typically between 80Hz and 120Hz.
  • PHASE: This switch (0°/180°) helps to ensure the subwoofer's output is in phase with your main speakers. Listen to music with strong bass and switch between 0° and 180°. Choose the setting that provides the most impactful and coherent bass.

Refer to your amplifier/receiver's manual for specific settings related to speaker size (set RF-82 MKII to "Large" or "Full-Band" if possible, or "Small" with a crossover if your receiver handles bass management for them) and subwoofer output levels.

5. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Dust the speaker cabinets and grilles regularly with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Grilles: The grilles are removable. For critical listening, some users prefer to remove them, but they offer protection for the speaker drivers. Handle them carefully to avoid damage.
  • Environment: Keep speakers away from direct sunlight, excessive heat, and moisture. Ensure adequate ventilation around the subwoofer amplifier.

6. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No sound from speakers
  • Loose speaker wire connections
  • Amplifier/receiver not powered on or input selected incorrectly
  • Source device not playing audio
  • Check and secure all speaker wire connections at both the speaker and amplifier.
  • Ensure amplifier/receiver is powered on and the correct input source is selected.
  • Verify audio playback from the source device.
No sound from subwoofer (SW-112)
  • Subwoofer not powered on or in standby mode
  • Loose RCA cable connection
  • Subwoofer volume too low
  • Receiver LFE/subwoofer output disabled or volume too low
  • Check subwoofer power switch and power cord. Ensure it's not in standby.
  • Verify RCA cable connection between receiver and subwoofer.
  • Increase the VOLUME knob on the SW-112.
  • Check receiver settings to ensure subwoofer output is enabled and its volume is adequate.
Distorted or unclear sound
  • Overdriven amplifier or speakers
  • Poor quality audio source
  • Incorrect speaker placement
  • Reduce volume levels on amplifier and source.
  • Try a different audio source to rule out source issues.
  • Adjust speaker placement and toe-in.
Excessive or "boomy" bass
  • Subwoofer volume too high
  • Subwoofer placed in a corner
  • Incorrect LOW PASS setting
  • Decrease the VOLUME knob on the SW-112.
  • Try moving the subwoofer away from corners.
  • Adjust the LOW PASS filter on the SW-112 or your receiver's crossover settings.
