4. Setup & Installation

The SM672 motor is designed for replacement applications. Follow these general guidelines for installation. Always refer to the specific equipment's service manual for detailed instructions.

  1. Power Disconnection: Before beginning any installation, ensure the power supply to the equipment is completely disconnected and locked out to prevent accidental startup.
  2. Old Motor Removal: Carefully remove the old motor, noting all wiring connections and mounting positions. Take photographs if necessary for reference.
  3. Mounting: The SM672 includes a complete hardware and mounting kit. Mount the new SM672 motor securely in the designated position using the provided hardware. Ensure the motor is stable and properly aligned. This motor is suitable for replacing C-frame and 3.5-inch round style motors.
  4. Fan Blade Installation: Attach the appropriate fan blade (FB402 or FB550, included) to the motor shaft. Ensure it is securely fastened and rotates freely without obstruction.
  5. Wiring: Connect the motor wiring according to the equipment's wiring diagram and local electrical codes. Ensure all connections are tight and insulated. The motor operates on 240 Volts (AC).
  6. Final Checks: Double-check all connections, mounting, and ensure no tools or debris are left inside the equipment.

  1. Power On: Restore power to the equipment.
  2. Initial Test: Activate the equipment and observe the motor's operation. Listen for unusual noises, vibrations, or overheating.
  3. Normal Function: The motor should run smoothly, providing the necessary rotational force for its application (e.g., fan operation).

Note: The specific operational controls will depend on the equipment the motor is installed in.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and efficient operation of your SM672 Utility Motor.

  • Cleaning: Periodically clean the exterior of the motor and fan blades to prevent dust and debris buildup, which can lead to overheating or reduced performance. Ensure power is disconnected before cleaning.
  • Inspection: Annually inspect the motor for any signs of wear, damage, or loose connections. Check the fan blades for cracks or imbalances.
  • Lubrication: The SM672 features a sleeve design. Consult the equipment's service manual for specific lubrication requirements, if any. Many modern utility motors are designed for maintenance-free operation regarding lubrication.
