4. Setup and Installation

If your door does not have a pre-drilled bottom hole for the handleset support, a drill will be necessary. 4.1 Door Preparation
- Ensure your door has two bore holes for the deadbolt and the handleset.
- Verify door thickness is between 1-3/8" and 1-3/4".

4.2 Handleset Assembly

5. Operation
5.1 Locking and Unlocking
- From the Exterior: Insert the key into the deadbolt cylinder and turn to lock or unlock. The handleset latch is operated by the thumb press.
- From the Interior: Use the turn piece on the deadbolt to lock or unlock. The interior knob operates the handleset latch.
5.2 SmartKey Re-keying
The SmartKey Re-key Technology allows you to re-key your lock to a new key in three simple steps, providing control over who has access to your home. This is useful if you move, lose a key, or wish to use a single key for multiple Kwikset SmartKey locks.
- Insert your current key and turn it 90 degrees clockwise.
- Insert the SmartKey tool fully and firmly into the SmartKey hole. Remove the SmartKey tool.
- Remove the current key. Insert your new key and turn it 180 degrees counter-clockwise. Your lock is now re-keyed.
