This versatile unit combines the functionality of a DVD recorder and a VCR, allowing you to enjoy your existing VHS tape collection and create new recordings on DVD. It also supports playback of digital audio and picture CDs. 3. Product Overview

3.1 Front Panel Controls

The front panel provides access to basic playback and recording functions, as well as the disc and tape loading trays.

3.2 Rear Panel Connections

The rear panel houses all the necessary input and output ports for connecting the unit to your television and other audio/video equipment.

4. Setup

4.1 Unpacking

Carefully remove the unit and all accessories from the packaging. Ensure all components are present:

Choose the best available connection type for your television:

  1. Component Video (Best Quality): Connect the Component Video OUT (Y, Pb, Pr) jacks on the unit to the corresponding Component Video IN jacks on your TV using component video cables. Connect the Audio OUT (Red/White RCA) jacks on the unit to the Audio IN jacks on your TV or audio receiver.
  2. S-Video (Better Quality): Connect an S-Video cable from the S-VIDEO OUT jack on the unit to the S-VIDEO IN jack on your TV. Connect the Audio OUT (Red/White RCA) jacks on the unit to the Audio IN jacks on your TV or audio receiver.
  3. Composite Video (Standard Quality): Connect an RCA video cable (yellow) from the AV OUT VIDEO jack on the unit to the VIDEO IN jack on your TV. Connect RCA audio cables (red/white) from the AV OUT AUDIO jacks on the unit to the AUDIO IN jacks on your TV or audio receiver.

4.3 Connecting to a Cable Box or Digital Converter Box

To record from an external source like a cable box or digital converter box, use the AV IN connections:

Once all audio/video connections are made, plug the power cord into a standard AC wall outlet.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Basic DVD Playback

  1. Press the Power button to turn on the unit.
  2. Press the DVD/VCR button to select DVD mode.
  3. Press the Eject button to open the DVD tray.
  4. Place a DVD disc onto the tray with the label side facing up.
  5. Press the Eject button again to close the tray.
  6. The disc should begin playing automatically. If not, press the Play button.

5.2 Basic VCR Playback

  1. Press the Power button to turn on the unit.
  2. Press the DVD/VCR button to select VCR mode.
  3. Insert a VHS tape into the VCR slot. The unit will automatically load the tape.
  4. Press the Play button to begin playback.
  5. Use the Rewind, Fast Forward, and Stop buttons as needed.

5.3 Recording to DVD

This unit supports recording to DVD-R/-RW and DVD+R/+RW formats.

  1. Insert a blank recordable DVD into the DVD tray.
  2. Select the input source you wish to record (e.g., VCR, AV IN).
  3. Press the Record button. Recording will begin.
  4. To stop recording, press the Stop button.
  5. Finalizing the DVD: After recording, it is crucial to finalize the DVD to ensure it can be played on other DVD players. Refer to the on-screen menu for the 'Finalize Disc' option. This process makes the disc read-only.

5.4 Dubbing VHS to DVD

To transfer content from a VHS tape to a DVD:

  1. Insert the VHS tape you wish to dub into the VCR slot.
  2. Insert a blank recordable DVD into the DVD tray.
  3. Select VCR mode on the unit.
  4. Start playback on the VCR.
  5. Immediately press the Record button for the DVD recorder.
  6. When the desired content has been recorded, press the Stop button on both the VCR and DVD sections.
  7. Remember to Finalize the DVD after recording.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning the Unit

Wipe the exterior of the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents. Ensure the unit is unplugged before cleaning.

6.2 Cleaning Discs and Tapes

Handle DVDs and VHS tapes by their edges. Clean discs with a soft, lint-free cloth, wiping from the center outwards. For VHS tapes, ensure they are stored in their cases to prevent dust accumulation.
