Pentair Model 756 2-in-1 Bromine and pH Test Kit

Instruction Manual

1. Introduction

This manual provides comprehensive instructions for the safe and effective use of your Pentair Model 756 2-in-1 Bromine and pH Test Kit. This kit is designed for accurate measurement of Bromine and pH levels in pool and spa water, essential for maintaining proper water chemistry and ensuring a safe swimming environment.

2. Safety Information

WARNING:

This kit contains chemicals that may be harmful if misused. Always handle reagents with care. Avoid contact with skin and eyes. In case of contact, rinse thoroughly with water. Keep out of reach of children. Store in a cool, dark place. Do not ingest chemicals. Always follow local regulations for chemical disposal.

3. Kit Contents

Your Pentair Model 756 Test Kit includes the following components:

  • Test Block with color comparators for Bromine and pH
  • OTO (Orthotolidine) Solution for Bromine testing (1/2 oz)
  • Phenol Red Solution for pH testing (1/2 oz)
  • Instruction Sheet
  • Yellow Hinged Case

4. Setup

Before performing any tests, ensure you have a clean, well-lit area. Gather your test kit components and ensure the reagent bottles are securely capped when not in use. Avoid direct sunlight on the test kit during testing as it can affect color readings.

5. Operating Instructions

Follow these steps for accurate Bromine and pH testing:

  1. Collect Water Sample: Fill both test cells in the clear test block to the indicated line with pool or spa water. Collect the water sample from a depth of approximately 18 inches (45 cm) below the surface, away from return lines or skimmers.
  2. Add OTO Solution (Bromine Test): Add 5 drops of OTO (Orthotolidine) solution to the left test cell.
  3. Add Phenol Red Solution (pH Test): Add 5 drops of pH (Phenol Red) solution to the right test cell.
  4. Mix Samples: Replace the caps securely on both test cells. Invert the test block several times to mix the solutions with the water samples.
  5. Compare Colors: Immediately compare the color of the water in each test cell to its respective color standard on the test block. Read the results by matching the sample color to the closest color on the chart.

Ideal Reading Ranges:

  • pH: 7.4 - 7.6
  • Bromine (BR): 2.0 - 3.5 ppm

Note: Do not dispose of tested water samples directly into the pool or spa. Dispose of according to local environmental guidelines.

6. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: After each use, rinse the test cells thoroughly with clean water. Do not use detergents or abrasive cleaners, as these can affect future test results. Allow the cells to air dry.
  • Storage: Store the test kit in its yellow hinged case in a cool, dark, and dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Reagent Replacement: For accurate testing, replace all reagent solutions at least once a year, or sooner if they appear discolored or if test results become inconsistent.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Inaccurate or inconsistent readingsExpired or contaminated reagents; improper water sample collection; dirty test cells; direct sunlight during testing.Replace reagents; collect sample from recommended depth; clean test cells thoroughly; perform tests in shaded area.
No color change in test cellReagents not added; reagents expired or inactive; very low chemical levels in water.Ensure correct number of drops are added; replace reagents; re-test after adjusting pool/spa chemicals.
Difficulty matching colorsPoor lighting; color blindness; faded color standards on test block.Test in good, natural light; consult another person; consider replacing the test kit if standards are faded.
