4. Setup

4.1 Connecting to a Television

  1. Ensure both the DVD player/recorder and your television are powered off.
  2. Connect one end of the RCA audio/video cables (red for right audio, white for left audio, yellow for video) to the corresponding output jacks on the rear of the DD-A100GX.
  3. Connect the other end of the RCA cables to the corresponding input jacks on your television. Note the input number (e.g., Video 1, AV In) for later selection on your TV.

4.2 Power Connection

  1. Plug the power cord into the AC IN socket on the rear of the DD-A100GX.
  2. Plug the other end of the power cord into a standard AC wall outlet.

4.3 Initial Power-On and Setup

  1. Power on your television and select the correct video input source (e.g., AV1, Video 1) that corresponds to where you connected the DVD player/recorder.
  2. Press the Power button on the front panel of the DD-A100GX or on the remote control.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions provided by the "Easy Guider" menu to complete initial setup, including language selection and aspect ratio.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 DVD Playback

  1. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button on the front panel or remote to open the disc tray.
  2. Place a DVD disc onto the tray with the label side facing up.
  3. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button again to close the disc tray.
  4. Playback will typically begin automatically. If not, press the PLAY button on the remote control.

5.2 DVD Recording (DVD+R/RW)

The DD-A100GX supports recording to DVD+R and DVD+RW discs.

  1. Insert a blank DVD+R or DVD+RW disc into the disc tray.
  2. Select the input source you wish to record (e.g., TV tuner, external AV input).
  3. Press the RECORD button on the remote control to begin recording. Press STOP to end recording.
  4. For timed recordings, utilize the VCR Plus+ timer-recording programming guide. Refer to the on-screen menu for detailed VCR Plus+ setup.

5.3 DivX Playback

This unit is DivX Certified, allowing playback of DivX encoded video files. Insert a disc containing DivX files, and the player will automatically detect and play them.

5.4 DV-Link Input

The "DV-Link" input allows for direct connection of a digital camcorder. Connect your camcorder to the DV-Link port on the front or rear of the unit using a compatible DV cable. This enables easy transfer and recording of digital video content to DVD.

5.5 On-Screen Operating Menu

Navigate the unit's settings and functions using the remote control and the on-screen display. Press the MENU button on the remote to access the main menu, then use the arrow keys and ENTER button to make selections.

6. Maintenance

6.1 Cleaning the Unit

Wipe the exterior of the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents. For stubborn stains, a lightly dampened cloth may be used, followed by a dry cloth.

6.2 Disc Handling and Cleaning

  • Always hold discs by their edges to avoid fingerprints.
  • Store discs in their cases to protect them from dust and scratches.
  • To clean a disc, wipe gently from the center outwards with a soft, lint-free cloth. Do not use solvents or abrasive cleaners.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your DD-A100GX, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

  • No Power: Ensure the power cord is securely plugged into both the unit and the wall outlet. Try a different outlet.
  • No Picture: Verify that the RCA video cable (yellow) is correctly connected to both the DVD player/recorder and the TV. Ensure your TV is set to the correct input source.
  • No Sound: Check that the RCA audio cables (red and white) are correctly connected. Adjust the volume on both the TV and the DVD player/recorder.
  • Disc Not Playing/Recording: Ensure the disc is clean and free of scratches. Verify the disc is inserted correctly (label side up). For recording, ensure you are using a compatible DVD+R or DVD+RW disc and that it is not full or finalized.
  • Remote Control Not Working: Check the batteries and replace them if necessary. Ensure there are no obstructions between the remote and the unit's IR sensor.
