Product Overview
The ELKAY 400A Columbus Pneumatic Timer is a single-contact, push-button operated timer. It is designed to replace standard single-gang wall switches and does not require a neutral connection. The timer provides an adjustable delay period, automatically turning off connected lighting after the set time has elapsed.

Key Features:
- Automatic Shut-off: Turns off lighting after a set time.
- Adjustable Time Delay: Configurable from approximately 5 seconds to 5 minutes.
- Easy Installation: Replaces existing single-gang wall switches.
- No Neutral Required: Simplifies wiring.
- Compatibility: Suitable for fluorescent (up to 6 fittings) and incandescent lighting.
- Durable Construction: Made from Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS).
Installation Instructions
- Power Disconnection: Before beginning installation, ensure the electrical supply to the circuit is completely disconnected at the consumer unit/fuse box. Verify with a suitable voltage tester.
- Remove Existing Switch: Carefully remove the existing wall switch from its mounting box. Note the wiring connections.
- Wiring:
- Connect the incoming live wire to the terminal marked 'L' or 'IN' on the ELKAY 400A timer.
- Connect the switched live wire (going to the light fitting) to the terminal marked 'SW' or 'OUT' on the ELKAY 400A timer.
- Note: This timer does not require a neutral connection.
- Time Delay Adjustment:
The time delay is adjusted via a small screw located on the rear of the timer mechanism. Use a small screwdriver to turn this screw. Turning clockwise typically increases the time, and counter-clockwise decreases it. The timing range is approximately 5 seconds to 5 minutes. Adjust this setting before fully mounting the timer.
Note: Timings are approximate and may require fine-tuning after initial power-up.
- Mounting: Carefully place the wired timer into the wall mounting box, ensuring no wires are pinched. Secure the timer to the box using the provided screws. Attach the faceplate.
- Power Reconnection: Restore power to the circuit at the consumer unit/fuse box.
- Testing: Press the timer button to activate. Observe the connected lighting and verify that it switches off after the set delay. Adjust the time delay screw further if necessary (repeat steps 1, 4, 6, 7).
For optimal performance, ensure the mounting surface is flat and does not exert undue pressure on the timer mechanism, which could affect timing accuracy.
Operating Instructions
To operate the ELKAY 400A Columbus Pneumatic Timer, simply press the central button. This action will switch on the connected lighting and simultaneously activate the internal pneumatic delay mechanism. The lighting will remain on for the pre-set duration (between 5 seconds and 5 minutes) and then automatically switch off.
- A single press activates the timer.
- The timer cannot be manually turned off before the delay period expires.
- Pressing the button again during an active cycle will restart the timer, extending the light-on period.
Maintenance
The ELKAY 400A Pneumatic Timer requires minimal maintenance. To ensure longevity and proper function:
- Cleaning: Wipe the surface with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents. Ensure power is off before cleaning.
- Inspection: Periodically check for any signs of damage or loose connections. If any issues are found, disconnect power and consult a qualified electrician.
- No User Serviceable Parts: Do not attempt to open or repair the internal mechanism of the timer. This will void any warranty and could lead to electric shock.
