Important Safety Information

Always follow basic safety precautions when using electrical appliances to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and injury to persons. This appliance is for commercial use only. Do not immerse the brewer in water or other liquids. Do not operate with a damaged cord or plug. Keep hands and cords away from hot surfaces.

  • Ensure the brewer is placed on a stable, level surface.
  • Connect to a properly grounded outlet only.
  • Do not operate the brewer without water in the tank.
  • Use caution when handling hot liquids and surfaces.
  • Unplug the brewer before cleaning or servicing.

Setup

1. Unpacking and Placement

  1. Carefully remove the brewer from its packaging. Retain packaging for future transport if needed.
  2. Place the brewer on a sturdy, level counter or table. Ensure there is adequate clearance around the unit for ventilation.
  3. Do not place the brewer near heat sources or in direct sunlight.

2. Initial Cleaning

  1. Wash the brew funnel, glass carafes, and sprayhead in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.
  2. Wipe the exterior of the brewer with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.

3. Filling the Water Tank

  1. Ensure the brewer is unplugged.
  2. Open the lid at the top of the brewer.
  3. Pour cold, fresh water into the opening until it reaches the fill line or the tank is full. Do not overfill.
  4. Close the lid securely.

4. Power Connection

  1. Plug the brewer into a grounded electrical outlet.
  2. Allow approximately 15-20 minutes for the water to heat to the optimal brewing temperature. The "Ready" light will illuminate when the water is heated.

Operating Instructions

Brewing Coffee

  1. Ensure the brewer is plugged in and the "Ready" light is illuminated.
  2. Place a clean BUNN filter into the brew funnel.
  3. Add the desired amount of fresh, medium-ground coffee into the filter. Refer to the coffee manufacturer's recommendations for optimal strength.
  4. Slide the brew funnel into the funnel rails beneath the sprayhead.
  5. Place an empty glass carafe on the warming plate directly below the brew funnel.
  6. Pour a full carafe of cold, fresh water into the top opening of the brewer. This action initiates the brewing cycle.
  7. The brewing process will begin immediately. Hot coffee will dispense into the carafe.
  8. Once brewing is complete, carefully remove the carafe. The warming plate will keep the coffee hot.
  9. Remove the brew funnel, discard the used coffee grounds and filter, and rinse the funnel.

Using the Warming Plates

The BUNN BUNVPS features three warming plates to keep brewed coffee at an ideal serving temperature. Each warming plate is controlled by an individual switch, typically located on the front panel. Turn on the switch for the desired warming plate after placing a carafe of brewed coffee on it. Turn off the switch when the warming plate is not in use or when the carafe is empty.

Maintenance

Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your coffee brewer.

Daily Cleaning

  • Carafes and Brew Funnel: After each use, wash carafes and the brew funnel with warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly and allow to air dry.
  • Exterior: Wipe down the exterior surfaces of the brewer with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive pads or harsh chemicals.

Periodic Descaling (Monthly or as needed)

Mineral deposits from water can build up inside the brewer, affecting performance. Descaling is recommended regularly.

  1. Unplug the brewer and allow it to cool completely.
  2. Remove the sprayhead by twisting it counter-clockwise. Clean any visible mineral deposits from the sprayhead holes using a small brush or paperclip.
  3. Prepare a descaling solution according to the descaler product instructions (e.g., white vinegar and water).
  4. Pour the descaling solution into the water tank.
  5. Place an empty carafe on the warming plate.
  6. Plug in the brewer and allow it to heat.
  7. Initiate a brew cycle by pouring a carafe of water into the top. Repeat this process until the entire descaling solution has passed through the brewer.
  8. Run several cycles of fresh, clean water through the brewer to rinse thoroughly before brewing coffee again.
  9. Reattach the sprayhead.

Note: Do not use harsh chemicals or abrasive materials for descaling, as they can damage the internal components.
