3. Operating the Scanner
3.1 Loading Film/Slides
The OpticFilm 8200i SE uses specific holders for different media types:
- Mounted Film Holder: For individual mounted 35mm slides. Insert the slide into the holder with the emulsion side facing down (usually the duller side).
- Filmstrip Holder: For 35mm filmstrips (negatives or positives). Carefully insert the filmstrip into the holder, ensuring it lies flat and is aligned with the guides.

Once the film or slide is securely in the holder, gently push the holder into the scanner's slot until it clicks into place.
3.2 Scanning with SilverFast SE Plus
- Launch the SilverFast SE Plus software on your computer.
- Select the appropriate film type (e.g., negative, positive, Kodachrome) from the software interface.
- Use the preview function to adjust scanning parameters such as exposure, color balance, and resolution.
- Utilize the iSRD (Infrared Smart Removal of Defects) feature to automatically detect and remove dust and scratches. This feature uses an infrared channel to identify physical imperfections on the film surface.
- For optimal image quality, consider using the Multi-Exposure function to capture a wider dynamic range, especially for challenging negatives.
- Click the "Scan" button to begin the scanning process.
- Save the scanned image to your desired location and format (e.g., TIFF, JPEG).

4. Maintenance
4.1 Cleaning the Scanner
- Exterior: Wipe the exterior of the scanner with a soft, dry, lint-free cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or abrasive materials.
- Film Path: Dust or debris on the film path can affect scan quality. Use a can of compressed air to gently blow away any dust from the film slot. Avoid touching the internal optical components.
- Film Holders: Clean film holders with a soft cloth or compressed air. Ensure they are free of dust and fingerprints before loading film.
4.2 Software Updates
Regularly check the Plustek website (plustek.com/support) for the latest driver and software updates to ensure optimal performance and compatibility with your operating system.
