Product Overview
The RectorSeal HOT 203L is a blue, medium-bodied, low VOC PVC solvent cement designed for joining rigid PVC pipe and socket-type fittings. It is formulated for quick setting and strong solvent welds, suitable for various plumbing applications including irrigation, pools, spas, potable water, pressure pipe, gas, conduit, sewers, and drain, waste, and vent (DWV) systems.
This product is suitable for all rigid PVC classes up to and including 6" Schedule 40 and 4" Schedule 80 pipes. Its blue color ensures full coverage during application, and its medium body formula helps reduce runoff.

Safety Information
Always prioritize safety when working with solvent cements. Read and understand all warnings on the product label before use.
- Ventilation: Use in a well-ventilated area to avoid inhaling vapors. If working in confined spaces, ensure adequate forced ventilation.
- Personal Protective Equipment: Wear non-permeable gloves (e.g., butyl rubber or nitrile) and eye protection (safety glasses or goggles) to prevent skin and eye contact.
- Flammability: This product is flammable. Keep away from heat, sparks, open flames, and other ignition sources. Do not smoke while using.
- Storage: Store between 40°F (4°C) and 110°F (43°C). Protect from freezing. Keep container tightly closed when not in use.
- Disposal: Dispose of unused product and empty containers according to local regulations.
- First Aid: In case of contact, flush eyes or skin with plenty of water. If swallowed, do not induce vomiting; call a poison control center immediately. If inhaled, move to fresh air. Seek medical attention if irritation persists or symptoms develop.
Preparation and Application
Proper preparation and application are crucial for a strong, leak-free joint.
- Inspect and Prepare Pipes: Ensure PVC pipe and socket-type fittings are clean, dry, and free from dirt, grease, or moisture. Check for proper fit; the pipe should enter the fitting socket easily but with some resistance.
- Check Cement Condition: Do not use if the cement has become curdled, lumpy, or thickened. Ensure the product is within its usable temperature range (40°F to 110°F).
- Apply Primer (if required): While this cement is formulated for use without primer in many applications, always refer to local codes and manufacturer recommendations. If primer is required, apply it to all PVC surfaces to be joined according to primer instructions.
- Apply Cement to Pipe: Using the under-lid dauber, quickly apply a heavy, even coat of cement to the outside of the pipe end. Ensure full coverage.
- Apply Cement to Fitting: Apply a thin, even coat of cement to the inside of the fitting socket. For pipes larger than 2" diameter, use a natural-bristle brush sized 1/2 of the pipe diameter for application. Avoid puddling, especially in the un-welled pipe such as the end of the fitting.
- Join Pipe and Fitting: Immediately after applying cement, quickly insert the pipe into the fitting with a slight twisting movement until it bottoms out.
- Hold Joint: Hold the pipe and fitting firmly together for at least 30 seconds to prevent the pipe from backing out.
- Wipe Excess: Wipe any excess cement from the joint with a clean rag.

Curing and Set Times
The HOT 203L is a fast-setting solvent cement. However, proper curing time is essential before handling or applying pressure.
- Initial Set and Pressure: The joint will take initial pipe pressure after fifteen minutes of applying this cement. It is also handleable after 15 minutes.
- Optimal Strength: For optimal strength and to avoid potential issues, it is recommended to avoid full-line pressure for 24 hours.
- Full Cure: The product achieves a full chemical cure within approximately 1 hour, though environmental factors like temperature and humidity can influence this.
Storage and Maintenance
Proper storage ensures the longevity and effectiveness of the solvent cement.
- Storage Conditions: Store the can in a cool, dry place, ideally between 40°F (4°C) and 110°F (43°C). Protect from direct sunlight and freezing temperatures.
- Sealing: After each use, ensure the lid is tightly sealed to prevent air exposure, which can cause the cement to dry out or thicken prematurely.
- Shelf Life: While properly sealed, the product has a reasonable shelf life. However, once opened, its effectiveness may diminish over time, especially if not sealed correctly. Discard if it becomes thick, lumpy, or curdled.
